Do You Completely Trust Semi-Auto Pistols?

I have a Sig Sauer P239 in 40 caliber that has over 5000 rounds downrange without one single failure. Also have an exact spare with about 1500 rounds downrange without one single failure. So, yes I do trust the P239.

Also have a new Ruger LC9S Pro with about 300 rounds downrange without one single failure. Since only 50 of that count were the Federal HST I'm not absolutely trusting yet but from what I've seen on the net concerning this models reliability I trust it enough to carry it.

As for the reliability of revolvers, that isn't an absolute. Because revolvers can have reliability issues, however they are usually different funtional failures. For example a model 19-3 I found at a gun show that was nearly unfired proved to serious ignition failures even with the Strain Screw shimmed to produce a 11.5 DA trigger pull. Turns out the reason it was almost unfired was because it had a "short" hammer nose installed at the factory back in 1972. Fortunately fitting a Power Custom extended hammer nose resolved that problem but it does point out that revolvers can have failures in reliability just as a semi auto can.

Yes, if you have taken care of it, it should be no problem.

My 1990 SA SERIES 90 1911a1 sat in the safe for 15 to 20 years because the stove piped one round per 8rd mag. It was so bad I never got a full mag thru it. The series 90 is in black park, has the higher sights, the frame to slide rail fit is tighter all from the factory. I forgot about it in the safe I had other guns to shoot. After buying all the educational videos and building my norinco 1911 I remembered the new SA in the safe. It took me a few minutes to fix it. The extractor tools came in handy again. The extractor was unsprung, detuned what ever it wasn't holding the spent case firmly. I dint have a 50rd box of ammo through this gun yet. Test firing it I ran 100rds through it non stop. I fixed it.

When I was younger I would shoot my Dads .45 Colt Government Model somewhat often. He only had 2 magazines for it and it seemed to malfunction more than I thought it should. As I got older I bought some extra magazines for it and it ran like a champ! His 2 old magazines were just worn out. The gun was made in 1946 and still runs like a youngster.

Check and replace old magazines

I trust my pistol(s) more than I trust myself.

Muss Muggins - 2016

Maybe that quote should read ..

"I trust my pistols more then I trust other people ! "

But Nothing is always 100% .. there could be reasons a weapon won't function and as others have said that is the reason for practicing different possible malfunction drills ..

I have pistols and revolvers and I trust them completely. If they have a tendency to malfunction then I fix them or send them in to be fixed until they work 99.9% of the time. Nothing is 100% trouble fee, Nothing. I know how to cure the stoppages if they occur. That's just part of owning a firearm. Revolvers due malfunction some times they are NOT 100% reliable. See what happens when your ammo has a high primer!

in a word, no...

I have a wife and son and they aren't as familiar as I am with different types and there are LOTS of different types. Therefore when I got into them for carry, I got all DAO guns for simplicity. Now reliability. Not as reliable as a revolver. I'm trying to establish what ammo will feed in all of my four semi's 2 of which are compacts, which says, "More picky". I'm also hoping through a lot of training (that I didn't need with revolvers) of handling the gun itself and being ready to shoot fast under pressure.

IF is a big word.

It's not really because sooner or later you GLOCK will malfunction.

And this
I simply will not own a gun for self defense that won't go boom each and every time I pull the trigger and continue to do so every time I pull it.

Sounds like you won't keep a gun that's not perfect.

I started with revolvers and moved to 1911's when I entered the Army. After my first tour I thought I would try LE as career so it was back to revolvers. Then back to bottom feeders' for popularity sake. Then I eventually became older so once again I'm back with revolvers.

As far as trusting one over the other, I simply draw on my experiences with both. I've experienced a number of issues with various semi auto's and never once with a revolver. I still have at least one semi auto and I do trust it but it's not my EDC. Call it dumb luck or whatever. BTW, for those younger people here on the forum, there's a reason why us older folks levitate back to revolvers. Sadly, it's not just muscle mass that you lose after a certain age, it's also a gradual slow down of reflexes and more.

I trust my Browning HP & Tisas 1911 more then my Kimber Pro carry II.
There old but feed anything it seems. Second round is always a FMJ HB.
But then again I trust my old M 10-5 2" & M 638 as much if not more.
Putting hundreds of rounds through any gun just seems to beat it and wear it more to me.

I've noticed that several people have stated that if using an automatic a person should practice malfunction drills. I had rather carry a revolver and use the malfunction drill practice time to eat ice cream and cake. :D  Larry

My night stand gun is my CZ 75 and I trust that baby all day everyday. Keep it well maintained and it shoots like a dream. I'll take my 16+1 over six rounds of .357.

My M&P's have been money right out of the box. Much as I love my snubbies, (Model 36 and 49), my Shield goes with me every day, mainly because I'm better with it. Should the excrement ever jump off, I want to be better.

Plastic guns melting? Seriously?

I trust semi-auto pistols as much as I trust any firearm.

Some of the worst stoppages I've seen have been with revolvers, ESPECIALLY when the ejector rod unscrews. I've NEVER had a semi-auto tie-up in a way that takes THAT long to undo. I'd sure never want it to happen in a gunfight.

I have a Sig P229 with about 2000 rounds thru it without a FTF, so I trust it.
