Probably for the same reason someone would do this! Astra Model 21 with case colored frame, gold plated small parts and engine turned bolt and trigger. I tell everyone it was Francisco Franco's personal carry piece! Different strokes for different folks!

There is a LGS nearby that also sells on a large auction site. They currently have a Coonan .357 that is purple with gold trim, a Purple Bling. It is certainly different. I think it was offered that way from the factory,

mine is a model 10-6 nickel with added number stamped on the frame...
I am assuming it may have been for an honor guard or it got pimped after duty was done...not quite nice enough to need a letter... but great shooter...
Cooper wrote in one of his books that one day on the range a student asked him why his sidearm had a brushed nickel frame, a blue slide, and Gold controls?? He said that from this point in time he reckons the lad was asking about the lubricity of the different finishes on each other, but on that day his answer was..Because I like it!!!
Fairly common LEO modification back in the day when the revolver was more of a badge of authority than an actual weapon. My, how times have changed. I've got a pre-M10 with that same treatment, plus real stag grips, that I actually carried on duty in 1972. Now we all carry ugly black Glocks. (Wonder how the Glock would look in Nickel & Gold?)
