Health and Fitness Thread

While out on a 6.75 mile walk this morning I contemplated what I should do now that I hit my 190 pound goal. When I was 30 and 190 pounds I was in great shape. At 60 and 190 pounds I'm in good shape, but not as good as it was when I was 30.

I walked to Kroger to buy some bread and other essentials and my father (92 years old) happened to be there shopping. I told him I hit 190 pounds and he said that was your goal wasn't it? I said yes, but I think I can do better. He said it just takes time.

I've learned how to use MyFitnessPal and am impressed by what it does. After lunch I reset my goals in the app to lose 1.5 pounds per week. It assigned me a "Net Calorie" goal of 2,040 per day. Net calories are total calories consumed less calories burned exercising; 2,040 calories per day is a massive increase over the 1,600 total calories I have been aiming for. The app thinks I'll reach 182 pounds within five weeks. I've set 182 pounds as a minimum weight. That is a Body Mass Index of 24 for my height and I'll try to add muscle before I drop below that.

I've found that the Rate Beer app has estimates of the calorie content for lots of craft beers. The bar-code reader on MyFitnessPal read the code on a bottle of Saint Arnold beer I tried and had caloric content for it.

So with my new plan mapped out and 1,595 "Net Calories" remaining on a rainy Friday afternoon, I raise a Saint Arnold Oktoberfest Marzen beer and toast all of you good people.

Cheers!

Strange but true similarities in our workouts today. I have to watch for cars. :o
That's pretty cool.
We havta watch out for spider webs across the trail, snakes and the occasional bear.
Once, there were about 5 Park Service trucks driving on a section of the trail. I just stood in the woods and waved.
I've been doing more hiking in a wildlife management area. Less tourists, in fact I've only seen one other person there ever.

The rains we've had to deal with this week have pleasantly reduced the temperatures. It's actually been relatively cool for August in Houston. This morning it's 77 degrees. I'll head out for my morning walk in a few minutes. I'll probably do a route of about 5.75 miles, but I adjust my workout walks on the fly depending on how I feel once I get going. I have three pair of shoes with the outer-soles worn through which I need to replace. Pushing my mileage up from 7 to 10 miles a day noticeably increased tread wear. It's time for my walk, each of you have a great day.

Folks talk up replacing their belts and britches as measures of their weight lose success. I'll one up them, I replaced 12 oversized pair of briefs with 15 pair of the next smaller size today. The old ones were just getting broken in ;), but they were just too big. You know you have lost weight when you are an old fart that feels he has to replace his underwear. :o

What is this "underwear" you speak of?

Funny ! Just had to do the same thing and may have too again soon. slid back a little yesterday at a birthday party for my granddaughters but hopefully no damage done.

I ate well yesterday and slept well last night. I woke up at 4:00 this morning after eight hours of sleep, and felt like I could sleep more. I got back in bed and racked up another two hours of solid sleep. I skipped walking this morning and went to the gym and did 45 minutes on the elliptical machine then 15 minutes on weights. Rains are moving around my area, so I decided the gym workout and housecleaning would be my exercise for the day. Now that I'm at 190 pounds, I've given a bit more thought as to what I want to aim for next and how I'll go about achieving it. My goal of 190 pounds has been achieved, but my Levi's 505 jeans size 34 x 32 still do not fit comfortably, so there is more to accomplish.

We're back from the Y. Now their scale tells me that I'm at 172. Well, I have been eating a little closer to "normal" for the last coupla days.
We had a good hour long workout. I've increased my workout weights on a coupla machines.
Then it was off to the warm indoor pool.
I'm gonna hit the diet hard again on Monday. Hopefully I can finally get below 170 and stay there.
From what I've read, since I'm 5' 8" tall, 170's still overweight.

Tomorrow we're gonna head back to the Y for spin class, ab work, a few laps on the indoor track then the indoor warm pool.

An occasional cheat day doesn't hurt. In fact, personally, I've found that an occasional cheat day helps me to get over plateaus.

Well, I did have a run in with one of the downfalls of being active in the great outdoors today. We were hanging ribbon for my club's upcoming enduro and I found a yellow jacket nest  Pesky little buggers got my 3 times. Not that big of a deal since I'm not allergic, but it definitely gave some of my club members a good laugh as I was running across the field hootin' and hollerin!
