Help! Need advice/direction - CRACK! 1980 S&W Model 29 .44 Magnum

Several yrs ago I was at a new gun store . The manager complained that they had gotten in a new revolver with a cracked frame and they were going to send it back . I asked if I could take a look at it . Sure enough it was just the seam where the side plate mated to the frame . I pointed out to them that it was not broken . This just happens from time to time . Life is all about learning .

All I can say is wow.

At least it isn't cracked though!

LOL, don't mean to laugh at you, but I feel your pain, just this week I shot for the 1st time this wonderful Mod 25-2 totally convinced that I had a 45 Colt vs a 45 ACP , my son fires 1 round of 45 ACP I went ballistic (no pun intended) when I tried to load up the 45 Colt rounds and they won't fit. I scolded my son for firing the wrong round and possibly damaging the cylinder. Well there was no damage, my gun was in fact a 25-2 which meant 45 ACP so no harm was done. ***sigh*** is right!! Yes those are side plates lines no worries. Nice gun!!
Regards
Lou

The crack is ok, I just hope it doesn't have a hole in the barrel.

I once sold a revolver to a casual shooter.
She showed the "crack" to a mutual friend, asking how to break it to me that I had sold her a defective gun and she wanted her money back. He explained the nature of the "crack" and she was happy.

Not to drift off, but due to the Elliason sights, do you know if the Python is from the Custom Shop? Super smooth action as well?
The original box would be marked if its still around.

Cracked 44 magnum

Hey. I also have a 1980 44 magnum and I just noticed the same crack on mine. My dad gave it to me a few years ago. I was freaking out myself. The gun is a blue steel and it has never been shot. It's a big relief to find that it's not a crack. Thanks to all who posted!!
