Thinking about a 45 full size and wondering if anyone has one and what's the experience. I already have a Shield 9, a Sig P320C 9 also and a 22 Victory and want a full size and figured why not go 45. Yes I have shot 45s in a variety of sizes and makes, I like how the MPs fit my grip, and I likely wont use it for EDC much living in Florida. I don't really like the 1911 in my hand so have ruled that out. Thanks in advance for the input.

I don't have the FS but have the compact with full size mag and extension grip, if you like 45 acp you won't regret it, it is my main HD too, added night sights and apex FSS kit, I had others 45 acp but M&P fits me better.

You can EDC a FS, I do and am in S Florida.
My M&P 9 conceals as easy as my old G19.

A good IWB holster like the MTAC and it's invisible with
a loose T shirt or Polo.

I also have a Shield 9 and a SIG P320c 9 (great minds...etc!), and a year ago I was also looking for a high-capacity .45. After much research, I narrowed my choices to the M&P 45 FS, the HK USP 45, and the FNH FNX-45T.

I was impressed in my initial exposure to the M&P FS 45, at a Smith and Wesson Day at my range. I fired 5 rounds at a target set at 10 yards. The first two were slightly low and left, but the final three went straight through the bullseye. I'd never shot so well with a gun I'd never before fired. The trigger was very smooth and and much lighter than the one on my M&P 40c. Subsequently, I rented one, and put 100 rounds through it in a back-to-back-to-back comparison with the HK and FNH 45s. Apparently, the M&P 45 provided at the S&W Day was somewhat of a ringer, because it had a much better trigger than the stock rental gun. I'm guessing that the S&W Day 45 had a Performance Center (or maybe even an Apex) trigger job.

Compared to my rental M&P, both the HK and the FNH had vastly superior hammer-fired triggers when fired single-action. Subsequently, I ended up buying the FNX-45 Tactical model. It was way more expensive than the M&P, but I thought its features and performance were worth the extra money for my principal home defense weapon.

My guess is that you can build a pretty good trigger on the M&P 45 if you send it to the S&W Performance Center, or if you add an Apex trigger/sear package. It will be a lot cheaper, too. I thought about doing that, but I wasn't sure what I'd end up with, so I went with the sure thing in the FNX-45T.

BTW, be sure to rent the guns you are considering, and I suggest putting at least 100 rounds through each. Not only will you learn a lot, it's a lot of fun.

Good Luck!

Excellent guns. I've got 3.
I had an HK 45 whispering to me for awhile, but tried the M&P and it was a better feeling gun for literally half the price.
All of mine are Apex'd. It's the gun I trust for my HD duties.

 First of all you need to check your blood oxygen levels. Clearly you're not getting enough oxygen intake if you don't like the 1911!;)

On a more serious note, the M&P 45 is my second favorite gun (guess which is #1?). I really do think it's one of the best out there. This includes comparing it with some really high dollar guns.

I've gone through a few upgrades with mine. I put the Apex FSS in and that made it just a dream to shoot. I tried it with a Trijicon RMR, but didn't really like that setup and went back to regular sights.

Go ahead and get it. You'll love it!

+1 with Rastoff.
Mine is basically the same setup as his, but I added a Crimson Trace grip laser.
Shoots very well, but it is a full size handful...LOL

Love mine. I also bought the 4.5" barrel like Rastoff. I put the fiber optic sights on mine (HIVz) for range use. For night stand use I have the TLR2-HL Streamlight Laser combo on her. Shoots great feels great.
This picture does not have the TLR on it but has the sights for range on it already,

My M&P has the 4.5 inch barrel and has 10 round magazines. The large grip insert fits my hand very well. It runs flawlessly! I did modify the magazines plastic followers by removing 3/16 inch off the bottom in order to get the tenth round inserted. My pistol is also the dark earth color. I really like the black grip insert. Where can I find a large insert?

jake1945,
The black grip inserts can be gotten easily on eBay. Several different stippled and non stippled at good prices. They also have the Magazine base plates. That is an excellent idea on the magazine to get 10 rounds in the gun. It would be great to start another thread on it and post some pictures of it. Great idea as long as it function reliable.

The follower, or any other part in the mag, shouldn't need to be modified to fit 10 rounds. I have lots of 10 round mags and can get 10 rounds in all of them without modification.

I don't own one, (yet)! But, I have shot a FS many times as a friend of mine has one.

He has the Apex FSS Trigger Kit in his and that make a wonderful gun to shoot.

I would imagine that carry would be possible with the right belt and holster.

I have 2 of the full size 45's. Heck...one I haven't even shot yet:D. The one I have shot I absolutely love. I may end up putting in an Apex Duty/Carry kit this winter when I have the time to mess with it. I had picked up the Uplula mag loader and 10 round mags are easy to load with it.

I have the 45C and LOVE this gun. Feels awesome in the hand, carries great. 8+1=9 with the short mag and takes the 10 round mags, as well.

This photo made before I removed the thumb safety.

Thanks for the replies, I am still in the checking things out mode. I went to the range with some friends and shot my guns ands also theirs. One was a S&W 1911 and I did warm up to it. I also shot a Glock FS 9 and didn't like it and a Desert Eagle 40, I think they call them Baby Desert Eagles, that was a fun gun to shoot but I still want a 45 so I will keep shooting some and see what I like.

I'm not a semi guy but I do have a M&P 45 C and really like it . It fit my hand perfect , recoil is easy to handle , it's very accurate and has never hiccuped once . I shoot handholds with my own cast bullets . The barrel is always very clean , no lead after several boxes . I cast the Lee TL 452-230 2R . That tumble lube bullets works just fine for me and is easy to cast / size / lube and I have never had any kind of hang up with it .
