How much ammo do you keep in reserve?

How many loaded rounds do you maintain for backup? I've got 2000 factory 9 mm as well as 1500 reloads. That's enough reloads for a month of shooting.

I also have 25K of .22s. I've been shooting my S&W 617 a lot more often and have been able to find lots of ammo at .07 to .08 cents per round. I use to pay about 1- 1/2 cents per round.

I have 2500 bullets for reloading, 2000 empty cases and 25K primers. I bought them all when they were on sale.

I have probably around 3k of 9MM, 2k of 357, 1200-1500 44 Mag and 4k or more of 223 loaded and on hand. I also have 200 rounds or so of 260 Rem and 264 Win Mag each on hand and loaded too. And also several hundred 380 Auto. Most of my ammo is reloads, but do have some factory stuff around. I do have some 22 LR around, but don't shoot 22 that much any more. Ammo for 22 pistols and rifles costs nearly as much as reloading for my 9MM pistols and Uzi.

Plan B is a Brown Bess musket. No primer shortage; it's hard to ban rocks. Two hundred pounds of cave dirt will yield a pound of saltpeter. Kentucky was a major source during the War of 1812. There's plenty of lead in the hillside that could be recovered. Buck and ball will keep food on the table.

Need?

In New York, with its short deer seasons, a single 20-round box of something like .35 Remington or .30-30 Winchester can last more than 20 years as even the best hunters have dry seasons. Adding up my deer hunting ammo, together with reloading components, I should be good for at least three thousand consecutive deer seasons.

I've received lots of ammo from friend's estates, the sum total of which is more than I would have bought for myself. I have at least a thousand rounds each of 9mm and .38 SPL, as well as a bucket full of .45 ACP brass and several thousand commercial cast bullets, probably more. A tremor in my right arm prevents me from shooting more than about 25 rounds of SD ammo at any given time so I should be good for at least another couple hundred years.

This thread reminds me of my cousin in Dallas, who never saw a firearm he didn't take home. He was cleaning out a room and had the bed covered in guns, his wife walks in and says " you don't need anymore guns, you have 32 handguns. He says "no I don't" and she says yes you do I just counted them". He replies "Then you didn't count all of them". He came through here last week and yes, he had two new pistols he had just bought with him. Time for a new count I guess. And I have enough ammo for him to have a real good time shooting for quite a while.
