How much ammo do you keep in reserve?

Like a few have already said, I don't consider myself a hoarder. I buy ammo whenever I see a good price. I just seem to always see it at a good price.

Currently on hand:
.22 11,100
.223 4,600
9mm 4,650
.45 450 (I've never even owned a .45)

That's only 20,800 rounds. Looks like it's time to find some good prices. However, I noticed a price hike two days before the election on the two sites that I normally order from. My favorite ammo site is out of stock on almost everything.

Things will hopefully normalize now and in a few weeks I can continue not hoarding.

I never used to keep a bunch before, but since the ammo shortages I have changed my practice. I have a few cases on hand in 9mm, 1 case in 45 acp, and "enough" cheap 22lr to last awhile. Similar but less amounts in various rifle calibers; maybe 2 cases in 7.62 x 39, less than a case in 7.62x54R, 7.65 Argentine, 8mm Mauser, 30-30.

Odd thing happened to me regarding online orders- I ordered 1000 rds of Magtech 9mm from SG at less than $10 a box of 50, with free s/h. Good price for new brass range ammo, far as I could tell.

Order placed on 11/5; on 11/7 (day before the election) I get a "backorder" notice and a $5 coupon for my trouble; 11/9 (day after the election) I get a shipping notice and a fedex tracking number. Expected delivery on 11/12, which is within the stated 7 business days for delivery.

Was SG (Sportsmans Guide) going to try to hold off, cancel my order, and then price things up if the election went differently, I wonder? I'm getting that feeling, and since things went otherwise, they went ahead and shipped it.

Possibly yes. Not the first time that has happened

Store all my ammo in military type ammo cans - only have about 20 full right now, but pretty light compared to my brother who has about 175 full cans stacked up!

I'd suggest folks shouldn't think of ammo/ component reserves in terms of Quantity but in terms of Longevity. i.e. Think about how much you shoot on a monthly/yearly basis. Then calculate how much you'll need to lay in to take you through "hard times" without feeling any impact. Personally, (assuming it's in the budget) I'd vote 1 years worth should be minimal and 2-3 justified.
Good news is this stuff doesn't go bad (or get any cheaper.)

I remember Massad Ayoobs suggested response when someone asks "How many guns to you have?"
Answer, "None of your business."
Considering that to be a wise response I feel comfortable applying that same thinking to the ammo question.
Respectfully,
Jim

Conservative estimate 250,000 rounds of assorted ammo. Thing
is about 50,000 rds I don't have the guns to fire it. But I don't get excited, it don't eat nothing and I may get a gun to fire it
tomarrow. I could shoot 7.62 NATO till the cows came home,or
my fingers gave out from pulling it out of links.
