Do only "old"guys edc revolvers

I carry both, sometime at the same time:D . Mostly a Cobra but it really just depends on where I am gonna be and what kind of mood I got up in. Both have their place .

Not old But not young either....., Eddie

I'm 24 and most days I carry a k-frame as a BUG. Then again, I have a bad back, likely have arthritis in my knees and ankle, drink scotch and bourbon, and have been a member of this forum since I was 18, so ya know, take my opinion as a youngster with a grain of salt.

I carry both. Sometimes one or the other. Sometimes two of one type. Sometimes one of each. Sometimes, even, I'll carry two of one type and one of the other.
Then, there are the rare days when I'll carry two autos and two revolvers.
Normally, a full sized auto + a compact or subcompact auto + a Charter Bulldog 44 (or a K frame sized .38 or .357) + a J frame .38 or .32.
The fastest reload is to draw and fire another gun. The good ole Jim Cirillo/New York reload.
Having a backup to your backup is good insurance in an unsafe world.
One is none. Two is one. Three is two. Four is three, ya see?
Just like, sometimes I drive a car/truck and sometimes I ride a motorcycle. (I always wear safety gear when riding)
And, sometimes I do both.
It just depends. How bad of a neighborhood am I being required to go to?
Am I wearing my level IIIA vest under my shirt?
What time of day or night am I required to go?

Bear in mind, I've spent my entire life avoiding bad areas/situations. It works most of the time.

About being old, I'm 46. Not young. Not old.
But, that's all relative.

I'm old enough to not look for trouble.
I'm old enough to realize I'm not immortal.
I'm old enough to know just how fragile my human body and life can be.
Still young enough to ride and to shoot my favorite guns.

I don't know about younger or older preferences and I certainly don't chose my EDC based on anyone's opinion other than my own and that my fellow forum members is simply based on exactly what sort of day I expect to have at work, integrating with the public, traffic, weather, etc.

So..........some days my EDC should be the M1 Garand, however it has been very tough to find an IWB holster, other days it has to be the Stevens 12 ga S x S, but those bandoliers of OO Buck slung over the shoulder seem to put off some of the office staff during meetings so most days I just trudge along in life with the 637 in an Uncle Mikes cheapo under the jacket.

Way back.....the original OP said no sense of humor left in old foggies.......guess he was right.

Choose your EDC carefully and if you do run across a holster for my M1, please post a pic.

My Friend, if you live long enough, you, as surely as God made little green apples, will get "that bad". Your opinion of us Old Folks, and their not being able to keep up with our society's frantic pace, shows the overall disrespect shown by our younger generation, for the generation that over pampered and never give any duties, or responsibilities to those little darlings. assuring that they would never have to work for their living as their parents had to do. Then suddenly at age thirty or forty, a few of the little darlings finally get out into the big old Bad world, with a lot of help from those pampering parents, and show their gratitude, and respect, by taking notice of how their worn out providers have slowed down, and are holding up lines of very appreciative young folks from the pampered Generation. The real sad part of this is that none of you pampered generation can see what I'm talking about, and all the pampering went down the drain, along with respect. All for nothing!
Chubbo

I don't think you quite got my point. I AM a senior citizen and I'm only talking about what other seniors are doing. I'm definitely NOT from the so-called "pampered" generation. I just don't want to decline in future years. You sir, need to pay more attention to what is in previous comments before you make your assumptions.

I like to have more than one wrench in my toolbox and I tend to mix and match revolvers and autos myself depending on the situation. These days I am carrying my Shostle Engraved nickel 29-2 as a belt gun on duty and a Kahr PM9 as a backup...and an NAA .22 mag in a pocket holster with my knife.

This thread reminds me of a time about 15 years ago when I was in my early 20`s and a guy I worked with who was about my age came to the office off duty and unarmed (shame on him). He decided he was going to go along to assist another deputy on something and wanted to borrow a gun. Naturally I had a spare in the car but when I handed him a model 28 Highway Patrolman and a couple speedloaders he grimaced and said with a straight face "No, I can`t carry no revolver..." That ranks right up there with one of the dumbest things I`ve ever heard to this day. (he finally decided that a sixgun was better than a nogun and took the 357)

I am not sure what old guys carry, I am only 52. I only carry revolvers. The high capacity is what does it for me, well depending on how many I am carrying. Plus all my ammo is 38 +P. All my glove boxes or consoles also have revolvers. Motorcycles, nightstand etc, J or K, light and heavy, new and old, blue, nickels, stainless, fixed, adjustable, fancy sights and half moons, rubber, wood, I don't care. They all shoot fast and straight and are a joy to carry.

Lawman:

Are your duties limited to attending multiple BBQs? That is one of the prettiest Sixguns that I have seen a present day Lawman carrying for a long time!!

Beautiful!!! Love the rig too.

Best Regards, Les

Thanks, Les. These days my main duty is to deliver bad news to people in the form of court paperwork, but I do eat a lot of BBQ now that I think about it. I get a lot of comments on the engraved 29 and I usually tell people that "one of these days I`m going to get something fancy." Even when I was a "real" cop though and trying to see just how many bad guys I could put in jail, I still always carried a bright finished pistola with stag or ivory grips...either a Colt Python, 1911, or an N frame with a barrel length somewhere between 3 1/2 and 5 inches.

It was funny when I showed up years ago at the state`s full time peace officer academy with a stag handled Colt 1911 (if you qualified with a semi auto you could carry a revolver too but not the other way around) and the instructors were asking me where I got that gun because obviously a young guy like I was wouldn`t have put those grips on it. They didn`t know me very well...

Lawman445, That quote settles it for me! No more 637 in a Uncle Mikes cheapo.....I'm definitely dragging out my Shostle engraved 60 no dash as soon as I can find some "quality" leather. Seriously (at the risk of high jacking this thread) I would love to know if you ever did any research on your Ben Shostle gun. I am trying (with little results so far) to track down more info on this founder of FEGA, Master Engraver from Muncie Indiana. His daughter Donata is evidently still around but don't know if any old records were kept. I saw another Shostle engraved S&W on the I-net that had a certificate describing the work and the stocks signed and dated by Ben, but cannot get mine tracked very far. What are the stocks on yours (horn, antler?). The Rocky Mountain Big Horn Ram grips on mine are marked Ajax M-21, so I don't know if Ben Shostle ordered them for the engraving he did on commission, or someone added later, but they are solid, extremely well fitting (looks like hand work...no gaps anywhere).

So...........sorry for the thread drift, but if anyone has info on Ben Shostle or Ajax stocks (not the modern I-net site for Ajax...they are all faux stuff now), or even research info on horn vs. antler stock making the old way, I would appreciate some tips.

Forgot to add the pic of M60 no dash Shostle engraved. Temporary insanity while drooling at Lawmans gun cause me to forget the forum rule "no pic...it didn't happen".

That is a great little model 60! I researched Shostle after I picked up my model 29 at a show a few years ago and came up with the same info on him that you mentioned. My gun actually came with a set of scrimshawed ivory that was signed by the engraver with eagles on both sides but just didn`t suit my taste. I will dig them out later and post a picture of them. The stags were from my stash and I got lucky on the fit.

I'm 72 and a Vietnam Vet and I carry a Sig P228 for my carry gun. In hot summer weather I will carry a S&W Pre 36 when I'm wearing shorts and a tee shirt.
