Best Weapon for Home Defense against Home Invasion?

You can make every excuse but being prepared should also include fitness.

Reinforced doors that will buy you time to draw against a threat will eliminate CV conditioning all together. If you are fit enough to draw your weapon bristly than you are equal. Fitness never should be underrated but I doubt it plays to a gun. Don't bring jumping jacks to a gunfight. It wouldn't be fair.

We'll see what happens when you get older and your body starts to turn against you.

I'm still in pretty good shape. But not like I used to be. So I have taken the time to fortify my home. I'm sitting in the living room as I type this. The nearest gun is thirty feet away in the bedroom. Because I'm in the security business I know that I will have plenty of time to act. That's how it should be.

which is WHY you should have handguns stashed around your house...shotguns in every closet, and behind every door...even behind the entertainment center!
.

So, at this point we've pretty much established that this is a troll post but I do want to address this insanity.

I would be willing to bet that any cop who participates on this forum will tell you that you are far more likely to have your multiple stashed guns stolen from you by a burglar than you are to use them during a home invasion.

Hmmmm, what an interesting thread.

After 33 years in law enforcement, my recommendations for avoiding home invasions:

Don't deal drugs.

If you do deal drugs, pay your drug bills.

Don't entertain other people's wives, girlfriends, or recent ex-wives or ex-girlfriends at your house.

If you follow these rules your chances of experiencing a home invasion will drop dramatically.

Of course, it could still happen in which case your tactical shotguns, blinding strobes, bouncing betties, claymores, and Home Alone booby traps will serve you well.

I have a safe full of cool guns, but I rely on Randy the friendly rottweiler and this old Enfield on the nightstand.

Probably the most pragmatic post in this thread. It seems of all the ' home invasions ' I have followed up on (in my area which are few) it seems one (or more) of the elements outlined by SIGP220 are what precipitated it. Reality being what it is I'll bet if someone was to take the number of occupied homes in the U.S., and then factor in the amount of them that are actually 'invaded' per year the statistics would probably show (as most do) your chances of being a victim of a deadly auto accident are much higher than a ' home invasion '.

As I have answered in the past, 44 special plus 12 gauge with 00 buck.
If long distance is needed a 30-30, all kept fully loaded. I live out where maybe LEO could be here in 1/2 hour. If on a rare occasion I need to
answer the door, it is done with the 44 in hand.

I have been a target of two unsuccessful home invasions or burglary attempts. The first when a mere lad of 17 and a recent H.S. grad. A machete and Marlin Model 60, both under my bed ended the attempt quickly. I let the guy go but he was sporting a sore chest from the gun barrel hitting him at full sprint in my right hand and the machete cut to his chest with my left. Yes poor tactics, but I was 17. He later joined the Navy, jumped off a ship, was discharged and the last I heard was in a mental institution in Florida. The incudent was 20 years later in the country. Two teenage youth coming down my hallway met me and a bed side Rossi 357. I knew both of them and I put them through a brief period of grave psychological concern and physical discomfort. Told them to leave, never repeat or the next guy my just kill them. They both turned out to be outstanding young men.

One place we are really susceptible to an invasion is our garage. Know a couple (high end neighborhood) pulled in their garage and after the door was closed were met by by two *** with guns. They were hiding on the side of the house. Will not go into detail but she has never recovered mentally. Talked to the husband, he just said "they never had a chance". Just another thing to be aware of.

Another pertinent point

Although I agree with the don't sell drugs or mess around with other people's significant others, there's a portion of that don't respect their neighbors. Each situation is different.

First grab is a pistol, just for speed. If time allows it would be put aside for a short 12 ga. pump

Reviving these old threads does give one a chance to update the ignore list.

There are new people joining the forum all the time so these threads are not old to them. Don't see what the big deal is with having one revisited from time to time.

If you've seen it before just use the scroll function and keep on movin.

I suspect most home invasions are the result of someone who knows something about the home being invaded.

Because otherwise, only a complete FOOL would rush up to a door and attempt to bust in!

I suspect most home invasions are the result of people who KNOW what's on the other side of the door.

No true. While many probably are many are also random. Why? Because a homeowner MAY be armed? Maybe not? Maybe he doesn't practice enough and really can't hit much without luck. Or maybe they simply DON'T CARE!

See the shootouts with police? Obviously police are ALWAYS armed and yet they have no problem shooting at them
