Us old guys have to be careful that a cold doesn't turn into pneumonia. How do you be careful?
Drink plenty of fluids.
Treat the symptoms with OTC stuff.
Take a spoonful of honey nightly. (with whiskey)
If you don't feel any better in 5-6 days, especially if you feel it in your lungs, see a physician and get a chest xray.

Being sick is no fun. If you just got the cold Airborne works wonders, but works best when you first feel the symptoms coming on. It has prevented me from being sick many times. If it has been a few days however, it will not make a difference.

For congestion, I think pseudoephedrine (real stuff from the pharmacist not the fake stuff on the shelf) combined with Guaifenesin (mucus thinner) work best together to get the stuff out. Stay away from orange juice and milk products as those increase mucus production.

Chicken soup, lots of hot liquids, plain water to help flush stuff out, and lots of rest. Hot water with fresh lemon and honey is great. Honey has antiviral properties. If you can stand the zinc lozenges they help shorten the cold but I can't stand the taste and they can upset the stomach too.

Good luck! I hope you feel better soon!

Very good product!

I use mucinex, well actually the Walmart brand equivalent. It works well for both chest and head congestion.

This is a very good product...I especially like the Mucinex D ...it will open your congestion up...you will have to sign for it at the prescription counter due to fact it contains pseudoephedrine...

Reminds me of Pharmacy college professor!

You can let it run it's course and it will take about two weeks, or you can get plenty of rest, eat soup and drink plenty of liquids and it will last about 14 days.:)

This reminds me of one of my professors at Pharmacy college...he used to say: if you have a cold and take medicine you will get better in 7 days...if you have a cold and do NOT take any medicine you will get better in 1 week!

Hey Salty RI...are you by chance an RPh?

I feel for you. I have it too. Head and chest. It's been a week yesterday. This a.m. for the first time I am waking not feeling like I'd been beat with a stick. Mucinex and Alka Seltzer cold fizzies - the ones with aspirin, not Tylenol. Echinacea and Goldenseal as well and three grams of Vitamin C a day for immune support.
