Police Trade-in 640s at Centerfire

I have been thinking about that. Since these are supposedly from the CDC maybe they were carried by Probation Officers? Do they even have detectives?

Not that it really matters.

I did a little digging and found that Michigan State Police issued the 640 as a backup. Recently they went to Glock 17's and 26's as backup's so it's possible that where they came from.

Taroman, what is a carding brush? All I can find are brushes made to pull wool. Is it metal or fiber or? Sure its called a carding brush?
Thank you!!!!

I just called and bought one. They still have some.

Got one too, they had 3 left when I checked. I never got the email notification that they were back in stock, probably set to go out to the first people to sing up.

Not to bad, cheapest used 640 I could find started at 430.

OK, got it!

Lock up is tight, trigger is really nice!

Looks pretty good, the grips are seriously worn (I was really hoping for something other than the Uncle Mikes, they are to bulky for my taste), somebody did a Kindergarten level paint job on the front sight (easily fixed) and some minor surface scuffing . I'm going to do some light Mothers polishing and see how she looks then.

Over all a pretty sweat deal, I was very impressed with Centerfire.

I'm a happy camper.:D :D :D!

Looks good and you got the old style latch which I prefer. Good for you!!

All this 640 talk made me grab mine this morning. I though about my ammo strategy and decided to load 110grain 357 in the cylinder and speed strips with 125 grain +Ps in the speed loaders. I can always reload with the long nose 38s as fast as a 45 mag change. The longer 357 rounds take too much concentration and fiddling with the uncle Mike's combat grips. I want to hit them hard if needed. If I have time and cover I can use the speed strips which are equally fast with the long cartridges. If speed is of the essence then I go for the 38s.

Picked up some Herrett's Shooting Star stocks.
Just the right size and balance for the 640's bulk and weight.

Consider this one finished...

I ordered my 640 Sunday. My LGS was closed Monday so Centerfire just got FFL info today. I will be lucky if I see the gun by Friday now which means probably next Tuesday before I get it. What a bummer this waiting stuff is. I couldn't live in CA with all that waiting for approval stuff.
Taroman that looks great.
I am wondering would getting a good set of Hogues be best to tame the recoil on this 640? Any suggestions for good looking grips for taming the recoil?

Well I couldn't resist, darn you S&W forum!
Picked mine up today, and mechanically it seems ok. A little rough on the outside and absolutely filthy. Grips (UM rubber) are trashed. Ejector rod was glued shut due to old oil all gummed up. It is now sitting in a bath of PB Blaster, side plate, cylinder, and grips off. I'll have to find some decent grips for it. And a OWB leather holster, though it will mainly be the ankle gun. Overall it's a bargain as new ones are twice the price.

Sounds just like mine.
They do clean up surprisingly well given a little (or lot of) effort.
