If we all stopped buying new foreign made firearms...

...I want foreign manufactures to stop sending us their products.

Why? Why limit the choices American consumers have? Do you think that's a realistic notion, that we Americans will buy only American-made products? And what happens when folks in other countries reciprocate, and stop buying anything from us?

My car and my motorcycle are both German-made. There is no American equivalent to them. The Americans who work at my VW dealer and the BMW motorcycle dealer would be out of jobs if they couldn't sell those products here...

Ya' know? I logged onto this thread because I believe in what you're sayin', but it really is a pie-in-the-sky sort of dream.

Single malt Scotch whisky (to be called that it has to be distilled, aged, and bottled in Scotland) is all I drink (other than an occasional micro-brew). The stocks on my 640 Pro were made in Germany -- nobody in the U.S.A. competes with Karl Nill. I wear boots "Made in U.S.A." but assembled from parts made elsewhere. The nicest vehicle I ever owned was "assembled in Mexico" (a Buick).

I think it's great to have national pride, and I truly love products that say, "Made in U.S.A." I go out of my way not to buy anything made in China. Reality, though, tells us we live in a world economy. Sure I would like to see the balance of trade tipped a bit in our direction, but greed and profit and scale and a gazillion other factors have "trumped" (truly, no pun intended) that. The average Joe -- there are millions of us -- who can afford what he wants is going to buy it, no matter where it's made. That's really the bottom line, isn't it?

So what do I get if I have no interest in M&P or Colts? What a Keltec? Or a Jennings?

BTW, Beretta, Sign, HK, Glock...They are all made here. US factories that supply jobs to US workers. Beretta spent millions in TN to build a factory and hire workers.

Sig isn't German it's US. It's 2 different companies. They split a long time ago.

When American companies start making M&Ps like HKs then I'll be interested. Till then I'll just buy an HK

I doubt US gun makers could keep up with demand if imports were cut off.

Plus, there'd be a black market of illegally imported guns for the collectors, gangs and cartels.

Many years ago I was teaching auto collision. For years I was pro GM and US made as far as cars, there was a fear factor in working on foreign vehicles. There were some early imports that were junk. When Japanese and European cars started pouring in around the mid 80's we were finding European cars by far better built followed by Asian and US manufacturers were turning out pure junk. Several years ago I purchased my first Honda pilot and now I jave a Toyota. I know this is about guns but I think the pattern applies. If it could be made as well and for a decent price in the USA it would be. I love my Springfield and my CZ. They obviously make a quality product. Someone needs to step up and compete, dont complain and limit whats out there.

Without launching into an economics lecture, international trade is driven by something called comparative advantage. Simplified, that means that everybody, and every country, is best off if they focus on producing what they produce most efficiently, export that and import other stuff that others produce more efficiently.

If you mess with that, you reduce competition and efficiency, you reduce choices, you increase prices, which reduces demand and kills jobs.

No thanks.

Arms, whether they're made here or elsewhere, sold here or elsewhere, are necessary for people to defend their liberty and freedom around the globe. The more manufactures and trade the better.

Little trip down memory lane... 1989 a permanent ban on foreign-made 'assault weapons'. Then in 1994 comes along a ban on US 'assault weapons' sales.

Why do gun owners want to feed into the gun-grabbers model voluntarily?
