624's...........2 of Them !!

I purchased 624 serial # AHB43xx a few months ago and love it.

Did not think much about the trigger until I saw a couple recently that had a serrated target trigger. Mine has Smooth Combat.....Hmmmmmmmmmm.......

Got me thinking about "options" when this gun was manufactured, so looked at the box and it says:
Model # 200. Product code: 103582

Yesterday, I picked up another 624 with Serrated Target Trigger and probably made the same month as above:
Serial # AHB70xx. Model # 173. Product code: 103582

QUESTION: since the Product codes are the same, does the Model number difference indicate Target Trigger versus Combat Trigger? Am assuming Target Trigger is more common, since I have seen at least 4 w/ TT and only mine with Combat Trigger?

BOTH boxes have the RED "C" on them, assuming both were recalled and checked for the potential weak cylinder problem?

And does the Red "C" mean "Checked"
by S and W?

So many mysteries................

Good snag on the 624's. There should be more info on the box labels. Possibly Spec code which would indicate ship dates. If you could post pics of both labels that would help to determine the features. They would have shipped with either trigger.

Are they both 4" or 6" barrels ? IIRC, the serrated triggers were original to 4" & 6" models and smooth triggers on 3" guns.

The red C indicates passing the factory inspection of cylinder check.

According to the SWSC the product code 103582 is for the 6 1/2" barrel. The catalog also says the 4" had the serrated trigger. Still would be good to see the label on both boxes. Assuming both of the op's guns are 6 1/2" the trigger could have been changed. Or S&W didn't do what we think.

Hi Gang

To specify further, Both guns are 6 1/2" and in original boxes with no alterations of my knowledge or vision.

One has smooth combat and the other has serrated target. Other than that and the difference in "model numbers," they are identical.

So................... could my first gun have been changed to Smooth Combat....................... or vice-versa?

See if I was successful attaching a photo of the 2nd purchase, the one which wears Serrated Trigger. (I do not have this gun in hand yet - will see it in about a week.) Of course I do have the first gun in hand but have not taken a photo of the box label yet. IF critical to figuring this out, I will do so and post.

I have 2 6-1/2 inchers, AHB7964 and AHB3488. Both have serrated Target triggers. My 4 inch AHB9915 has a smooth trigger but it isn't the wide, smooth trigger people call "Combat" trigger. 2 3 inchers have the same triggers as the 4 incher.

I recently purchased a 6 1/2 624 serial # AHB-88xx product # 103582. It came with the target trigger and hammer. It's been following me to the range on a regular basis since.

Those 3-digit numbers aren't what you might think. If you look at the label heading "Model No.", below that appears the gun's model number -- "624". Just as below the heading "Barrel" is printed "61/2". Under "Finish" is a "S" for stainless. It's just happenstance that those 3-digit numbers are in proximity to the "Model No." heading.

I've been studying these labels for awhile and I don't think those 3-digits numbers in the upper left hand corner describe any aspect of the gun itself. I think they could be used for inventory tracking, or for something that had meaning just in the certain time frame when the guns were new. If anyone knows different I'd like to hear it.

My question for you, sir, is what is the "Spec Ord." numbers of you M624's?
