Seldom used or odd words; I'll start

Balderdash
Noun
Senseless talk or writing; nonsense.

Way back when the earth was flat, (in my youth), I worked for a Physician and this was his favorite word. When he used it, the topic of conversation, ended abruptly.

We play a game called "fictionary". Maybe it's similar, but the only things you need are a dictionary and paper/pencil.
One person picks a word from the dictionary, writes the correct definition keeping it hidden. The other players, after hearing the word, write their perceived definition. The "definitions" are read aloud and the players vote on which is the correct definition. Points are awarded accordingly.

Lots of chuckles and laughter ensues because the words chosen are always unusual, the the "made-up" definitions are often hilarious and clever.

With Balderdash a random, seldom used word is read from a card. Each player has to write a definition on a piece of paper. Then all the definitions plus the real definition is read off. Players have to choose which definition they think is correct. You get a point for ever each player who chooses your definition. On top of that you can get point for choosing the real definition, and a point if you write down the real definition.

Naturally the answers, like you said, can be quite funny.

Antidisestablishmentvegetarianism

Uh, I believe the actual word is antidisestablishmentarianism, but nice try on slipping a vegan post by us carnivores here on the old interweb:p

My grandmother taught in a one room school during the 1920's.
She used to tell pupils who were faking illness that they had whoflungdung of the doohickey .

The longest medical term I know:
Endoscopic-retrograde-colyangiopancreatography. Yep I believe that's a record...its a device used to visualize the bile ducts and the pancreas. Please forgive the spelling errors.
