Watchdog's Tip of the Day: Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

Including that...:p

I guess this means you don't believe I'm a famous French model, either, do you?

During the mid 60s and early 70s I got 3 garands,2 were WWII Springfields while the 3rd was a 195? NM, from the DCM plus the gun clubs I belonged to at the time each had a rack full of loaned M1s.The clubs also got good allotments of 30-06 ammo.

As prior military and then active police officer I received them quickly.

Back in the late 1960s, I was the "Armorer" of the local gun club. We had eight M1s and eight M1911A1s on loan from DCM, and I kept all of them at home. Also about 10K rounds of .30-'06 ammo, all WWII armor piercing (I still have several boxes of that). Unfortunately, before I took over the club members apparently never cleaned the M1s after firing all that corrosive ammo, and all the bores were in the proverbial "sewer pipe" condition, and there was nothing I could do about that. DCM recalled all of the .45s after GCA-1968 took effect, and I had to send them back. They were a pretty sorry lot that seen a lot of service.

It sounds good. I'd love to see it happen. But even if CMP got them tomorrow, it would still be a couple of years before they went on sale.
The story also kinda rings of the 1911s CMP is supposed to get. That still hasn't happen yet either.

Until you see an official announcement from CMP, its just a rumor.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

The difference here is that the information about the CMP 1911s/1911A1s is true.

Authorization has been given to release pistols to the CMP, although no time frame has been specified. The CMP has sent out updates verifying that they'll receive the pistols, but no further information is available. The CMP will keep us updated as they know more.

The "breaking news" about the Phillipine Garands is just another Internet rumor so far.

I wonder what General Patton would have said about the M-14 and then the M-16......

Having an M1A in my "arsenal" dilutes my craving for an M-1 but I understand the excitement if that many hit our shores. Cool rumor; I hope it pans out for everyone.

I remember Colonel Coopers page in the back of Guns and Ammo were he recalled a story of a Filipino Police officer took out 13 communist terrorist with 2 clips before he was taken to Valhalla.

I hope its true.

Not too long ago there was an influx of returns from Greece. There were a lot less of the them, but you could still get a serviceable Garand for about $285. I got one for my youngest, and it turned out to be a very nice HRA.

Maybe these, if they exist, will also be reasonably priced.

During one of my Talladega trips, I stopped at the DCM as it is in the town I stay in. There were a number of people who were there cleaning the Greek guns and the payment they received was a rifle if I remember correctly. This was probably 10 years ago, so I don't know what the current policy is.

Let's hope they have several million rounds of surplus ammo too.
