Ready for the wife to trade. Shes set on the 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk.
Anybody have experience with the 4 cyl. ? We do live in the Catskill Mountains.
We're older so not needing macho power anymore. She has a 2014 Chey Cruz right now.
Seems the V6 models are several thousand more, is it worth it ?
Personally I'd like the V6 but its not my vehicle.
My personal vehicle is a 18 yr. old Grand Cherokee.
Wife still works so she needs dependability .

I would get the V6. The 4 cylinders were fine in the older models that were much lighter and had smaller bodies. They have added weight and increased frame size in the modern Jeeps (I think my 2014 Wrangler Sahara weights 400-800 pounds more than my 1999 Wrangler) to the extent that it feels underpowered even with a 6.

My 2014 Wrangler has been highly reliable with hard, farm use. I think you will have no dependability issues.

I cant speak for the 4 banger but I just bought the wife a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Latitude with a V-6. We live at a high elevation, house sits at 9050', and often drive over 12,000' passes. She finally let me drive it over a lower pass and I had to pass 2 slow codgers. The V-6 had enough oomph to get it done safely in the short passing zones.

I would go with the 6 cylinder. At close to 5000 pounds, a four cylinder isn't enough.

We have a 2011 Chevy Malibu. Has a four cylinder rated at 180 HP same as the four cylinder Trail Hawk. Around town it's fine. But as soon as you put a second or third person in it, it bogs down big time. Going up hill? Forget about it.

Jeep cherokee----3600LB

If it is, then that's good. Report I read must be wrong.:rolleyes:I would still get the 6. ;)

starting to lean toward the V-6 but a lot more money, something I'm not made of.

Maybe the 5000lb was a Grand Cherokee, I think thats about what my old 99 weighs Strait 6

Think of it this way; your wife need reliability in her regular commute. The V-6 is MUCH more reliable after a spell of use. For her safety, find a way to purchase that vehicle with the much better and reliable engine. .....

If you're talking reliability, i would look elsewhere. Jeep/dodge/Chrysler/Fiat? Yikes.

Not only that, but the four is supposed to be better with gas mileage. But, because of the lack of horsepower, I use more gas!

I got the v6. And yes it was a lot more money but I decked it out for the wife. If all your wife is going to do is commute and the commute is pretty much an easy commute the 4 banger will suffice. But you know you are driving a 4 banger. You have to be vigilant regarding lane changes in building enough speed and there really is no acceleration for an evasive move. We test drove the 4 banger and 6 cylinder over a two day period. The v6 is perfect for us......but hers is the the top of the line trail hawk 4x4. And though I am not made of money the sacrifice for the wife is ok with me.....it just means it takes me a bit longer to build up my mad gun money.
