Need your opinion on SW9VE

Hmmm..... He's the new member from Romania, so maybe not adept at English. I think he's soliciting general opinions about the gun.

I don't have that model, so can't say anything.

Well, I can let him know in a few days. I'm waiting out the "cooling off period" and should be able to pick mine up in two days. This is my first poly framed striker fired pistol. All my other pistols are steel or aluminum framed and either SA or DA/SA. And of course all my revolvers are steel. I wanted a basic "modern" semi to see how it would function as a packing/truck/HD gun.

What struck me about the SD9VE is that it seems to be the modern incarnation of my Model 10 revolvers. Everything you need and nothing you don't need.

If the OP is actually referring to the SD9VE, I don't believe he would be disappointed. It is not a 1911 by any means, or it is not a M&P, but it is an all around very good gun for the money. I have been very pleasantly satisfied with mine.

I actually have the SW9VE (NOT the same as the SD) and have used the SW9VEs as loaners and trainers for two decades. The SW9VE is an economical, rugged, and reliable service pistol, with a long, hard trigger pull like a double-action revolver. The main reason for developing the SD9VE was to put in a better trigger.

My advice to anyone on the SW9VE is either love it as it is, or don't buy it, since there is little you can do to change the basic trigger. The SD (improved Sigma, uses same magazines) is better, and the M&P pistol series is MUCH better, and has many more aftermarket goodies available.

Around here, a used SW is worth about $150 and a new SD can be had for $275.

I for one appreciate the clarification on these two lines. I'm new to the SD9VE line, and can't say I've actually seen the SW line up close enough to have remembered. Thanks.

Well, I misread the OP's post. Apologies.

Hello everyone! I know that here are many threads about sw9ve, but i read lots of pro and cons about this gun and I need your opinion

Pros;
1) They are built like a tank.
2) They will eat ANY kind of ammo you feed them.
3) They are priced very low for such a quality firearm. This means you can buy the SD9VE & SD40VE for the same price as (1) Glock.
4) They go "BANG" every time you pull the trigger.

Cons;
1) They are called "A Poor Mans Glock."
2) S&W has just recently introduced new versions of the SDVE series. If you're married, this is a problem! If you're single, you've hit the lottery! :D
No matter which SDVE you buy, you won't be sorry. These guns are way under rated and people will take note that they are equal to a Glock, but for almost half the price as what the Glock sells for.($539 VS $279-$299)

I have had my SD9ve for almost a year and put plenty of rounds through it. I think its a excellent gun. I did upgrade to the Apex spring kit and put Truglo fiber optic sights on it. It runs like a beast.

The APEX spring kit makes the SDVE a much better gun! You can't go wrong with an APEX spring kit. :cool:

If you are indeed talking about sd9ve I can give an opinion after running about 250 rounds through my new one yesterday morning. 200 rounds of a mix of aluminum case blazer,generic reload the range had cheap and 50 rounds of a mix of gold dot +p and HST..... buy one. It was flawless. I have several glocks and like them but I shot this thing more accurately. It fits my hand better and I was point shooting at 25 yards-and making hits!! The plastic-sorry"polymer" feels cheaper than a glock but for half the price trust me I can live with that! I absolutely would recommend this pistol to anyone. Buy one.

They work well......

...and the cost won't break the bank. Great basic gun. Personally, I am a 3rd generation fan with the four number models like the 5906.

And welcome. How's the weather over there in Romania?:)

I traded my SW9VE in on my SD9VE. Hard to find many of the parts for the SW9VE. Many of the parts are no longer manufactured by S&W.
As for the SD9VE....probably the second best gun buying decision I ever made. The first being my Tri Star C100 CZ clone.

Thanks. It's a little bit cold for this period of the year.

I have two SW9VE pistols, not the same as the SD9VE...different beast.

It's a durable and reliable service pistol that has shot everything I've sent down the barrel...all without a problem. It's big, ugly, and has no aftermarket to speak of, but it serves it's purpose.

I've had mine for a few years and love it. Mine resides in my nightstand on full time duty, always on the ready. I know without a shadow of a doubt that it is a great tool for self defense. I've had the opportunity on more than a few occasions to trade it in on a better model, but just can't bring myself to do that.

Hello Hrolf. I've had an SD9VE for around 2 and a half years now and am pleased with it. The trigger pull was heavy but smoothed out with use and dry firing, this weapon has fired every type of ammo that I have put into it. this includes 115, 124 gr. FMJ, HP, brass ,alum. or steel case.
The reason I bought this gun was it fit my hand and shooting style, modified weaver stance, and the sights , while painted and plastic, are visible to me. I've been tempted to change to another gun but I take it out and just can't justify the purchase.
At the beginning of the year I finally got my CCW so I may end up with a .380 bodyguard as that is more readily concealed for me.
All in all cant go wrong with the SD9VE.
