Hello from Texas my fellow M&P Madmen!

It has been a really crazy year for me and guns. Why? Because prior until a few months ago, I didn't own any guns and never have, except a cheap Wal-Mart Shotgun I bought 15 years ago that I haven't shot in 10 years.

OK, we'll get to the M&P, since it's an M&P Forum, but the quick run-down. I bought my first hand gun in March and I haven't even shot the damn thing yet. My wife also doesn't even know I have it, YET! She will, but I am trying to break her in to the idea nice and easy. I got a Springfield 9mm XD Mod.2 4" Bi-Tone. Springfield had an awesome promotion and I received 3 extra magazines, a holster, and a mag holder free.

I also ALREADY bought 500 rounds of Federal 9MM Ammo, a Magula Mag Speed Loader, a Stream-Light TLR2-HL-G (800 Lumen tactical weapons light, with strobe, and a green laser, and some ear muffs. I can get carried away sometimes, remember, haven't even shot the gun yet!:confused::D

I have been looking at AR's and started to get the "ITCH" last year and started watching videos, etc. I was between the Ruger AR556 & Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport II. So Yesterday I say to myself, I am getting it and I "pulled the trigger" (not actually, since I don't have the gun yet, and the hand gun I own hasn't even been fired 1 time yet)

I was happy as I got it for $499, with Free Shipping! The place I'm having it shipped to does the fire-arm transfers for $10.

OK, so in the last 24 hours I have already bought several extras for my AR15, and I haven't even got the rifle yet.

I got the following:

-500 rounds of PMC Bronze .223 Remington 55GR FMJ-BT Ammunition ($5.99 per box of 20).

-Bushnell TRS-32 5 MOA Red Dot with Mount. Had an eBay $15 Memorial Day Coupon and paid $74.99, PLUS Bushnell has a 25% rebate and with another 2% off on my CC, it will be $55.00.

-Got (10) D&H 5.56 30rd Aluminum Magazines from Palmetto State Armory ($7.99 each and free shipping). I hope these work well with my M&P Sport II?

-Just ordered a 42" Plano All Weather Tactical Hard Shell Gun Case for my AR15 (cost only $56.00). I almost got the 36", would have fit better, BUT the 42" will allow me to keep mags, and other accesories, maybe even my XD Mod.2 9MM handgun. It has that foam you "Pick Away" at so it outlines each item in the case, for the money, it's a good deal, but I kind of wished I got the 36" case, just because it's more compact.

I am excited and can't wait to shoot the gun. Maybe I should have got a SCOPE instead of that Red Dot?

Anything else I should Buy? (Bi-Pod, Gun Sling, etc.?)

Thanks and I am excited to be a part of this group!

first of all, welcome!

PMC Bronze, decent plinking ammo, good choice. TRS25? I have one on one of my Ruger 22 target pistols. Good choice. D&H mags? Good choice.

Welcome
Sounds like you have plenty of "stuff" you need to get to the range Brother. Also as already stated, more ammo and training. Usually one of the guys behind the counter at the range will walk you through everything as you stated you haven't even shot your XD yet. You can learn a lot from YouTube but hands on is different.

Sounds good.

The D&H magazines work well. I've used them for years. The TRS 32 is a reliable inexpensive red dot. I have one for my son's 15-22. Bought it about four years ago for considerably more than you paid. They are discontinued, I think, but it should do the job for you.

Now, what are you waiting for? Get out and shoot those guns!

Thanks guys, I ALMOST got 1,000 rounds of that PMC .223 Ammo, BUT, I figured before I go crazy, I should shoot some first. What other AMMO is good? I get confused about 5.56 and .223?

I read you can shoot .223 through a 5.56 barrel, but you can't shoot 5.56 through a .223 barrel? I thought the gun was compatible with BOTH .223/5.56?

Besides Bronze PMC .223 FMJ, WHAT else is a Good Round to Shoot with the M&P Sport II?

I am NOT sure WHY I got the Red Dot? With all the rebates and $15 off coupon, it was hard to pass up for $55.

SCOPES????????????????????????????????

Been looking at Scopes and trying to decide what is a good on to buy? Also, REAL SCOPE Better? I don't know exactly what I want, but don't want to spend more than $250, and less would be better. However, if there is something so awesome that it warrants spending more, I could. Seems like there are some decent scopes for under $150?

Some Scopes I was considering (from reading about them):

1. Nikon P-223 3-9x40 Mate BDC 600 ($165)

2. Bushnell Optics 1-4x 24mm Throw Down PCL, FFP Illuminated BTR(AR 223) ($225)

3. Primary Arms 4-14X Tactical Scope with Front Focal Plane PA4-14XFFP ($229)

4.

Cheapys!

1. Simmons 511039 3 - 9 x 32mm .22 Mag(R) Matte Black Riflescope ($31.99)

2. CVLIFE Hunting Rifle Scope 6-24x50 AOE Red and Green Illuminated Crosshair & Free Mount ($39.99 WOW Cheap!!!)

3. Beileshi 6-24X50mm AOEG Optics Hunting Rifle Scope Red/Green Illuminated Crosshair Gun Scope With Flip Up Scope Covers ($48.99)

Welcome to the club... now put away the credit card unless you are buying more ammo, range fees, or classes. :D

Seriously, forget about scopes, red dots, and any other whiz bang doo-dad you see hanging off of ARs on the net. Go shoot the rifle with the sights it came with. Learn how to operate the rifle and hit what you are aiming at. After you go through those first 500 rounds, then you can start thinking about how you want to set the rifle up.

Sounds like you're having a lot of fun.

The purpose of the rifle and how you intend to use it should dictate the type of gear and optics. Without that nailed down, you'll be endlessly bouncing around like a ping-pong ball between 1x red dots and 24x scopes like you are now. Take a deep breath and define the role of the rifle. Range toy, self defense, hunting, bench shooting...

For example-- are you one of those guys who wants to sit at a bench and agonize over how accurate your groups are on paper, or will you be shooting offhand and want fast target acquisition.. or or or...

With all those new guns I hope you will take your time developing and practicing strong safe handling and and marksmanship skills. Thoroughly learn safe manual of arms skills.
I realize that in your excitement that this is sound advise.
Enjoy your new rifle but remember to get to know it and its operation well and always be safe.
Good luck
Jim

I'm really just trying to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and MOre Practice!!!!!

I'm Practicing Looking in the mirror so I can make Cool Faces when I shoot! I have been working on 3 or 4 faces so far. here they are in no particular order:

1. "You talkin' to Me"? (You just repeat this over and over again)

2. "Kiss my Grits" (Just look mean and GRIT your teeth)

3. Texas Tornado (You stare the person down for 5 seconds, then just start twisting in circles as fast as you can, over and over, like a Tornado, just fire whenever you can before you get dizzy and fall over.

4. Crooked Mule (Stick your front teeth over your bottom lip, and start screaming, Hee-Haw, Hee-Haw, Hee-Haw.............

5. Donkey Show (Wear a Cape, and raise up 1 of the sides of the cape with your right arm, then do the same with your left, and rotate back and forth. When the Cape is at full height, it will look like you are walking up to a circus tent, like the ones they have out front at a Donkey Show in Mexico.

I am also practicing things I saw in movies, like holding the gun sideways wand other things like that. Like I said, Practice, Practice, Practice. And never put your finger on the trigger, until you are ready to shoot.

OK Sorry..................... That was ridiculous. I will get back on track with the next post!

I know, I need to get out and go shoot my guns, before I worry about buying all the extras, but it is SO FUN! It also takes all your money!

Nobody's going to lose an eye. I am SAFE. I have shot a gun before, but not the ones I bought, yet. I am very careful and when I do have a gun around me, I am overly cautious, like we ALL should be.

I do need some help, and a few of my neighbors own hand guns and one just bought an AR15 several weeks ago. My plan is to go to the range with him my first time.

Just so he can show me the ropes, explain things to me, show me how to shoot and do things in a safe manner. I don't want to go by myself the first time. My wife KNOWS I have AMMO. I got it delivered to the house, and she was like, WHAT???? I said it's to go shooting at the range with my neighbor, ammo ain't cheap! After I got with him and another guy (both in a church group I am in), then I can say I am ready to buy a gun, and if she says OK, then one will just magically show up one day, especially since I already have it.

If she says NO, then I will have to sell an XD Mod.2 9MM and a brand new M&P Sport II.

I also got a nice Gun Safe last month. I haven't set it up yet as it is in the garage and weighs 1,000 lbs. I need to get the thing moved inside, and I plan to put the guns in there. I am bolting it to the concrete slab and I bought it for something besides guns, but it is nice to have a place that is secure that my young daughter can't get into.

I think my AR15 should be here by early next week. I need to go track it. It wasn't ready to track yesterday, still showed processing.

All I'm gonna say is your better expose that credit card to some more light and get the wife some new clothes, shoes and purses to go with them. You might even throw in $500 cash and let her pick out some jewelry. It will help reduce your dog-house sentence and MAY extend your marriage. :)

I thought I was sneaky.

My wife had always been opposed to having guns in the house. Until about five months ago when tragically one of our neighbors was killed in his driveway after surprising someone breaking into his house in the middle of the day. After hitting so close to home she agreed it was time that we made preparations to defend ourselves. So I got my first pistol, a SD9VE and have spent a lot of time at the range with it. Not long after that I got my CC permit and took advantage of SW rebate and got a Shield 9mm and it is my EDC. Then one day I rented a Ruger AR 556 and shot it at the range. Well you know what happens next I had to have my own AR. So I just got my first AR, M&P sport 15 ll. It is addictive and I share your enthusiasm, however my wife does know about all the guns I purchased but she hasn't said no more guns yet. [emoji4]

First thing tell your wife !! Secrets like these are never good in the end .. if you cover up this what else are you hiding will end up being in her thoughts !!

Slow down .. quit acting like a jock (#12) carrying concealed is serious it isn't a game .. CC holders are low key .. get some training and learn your states laws on carrying your weapon ..

Be Safe !!

Is this a real thread?

Yes, believe it or not, it is 100% Real. It started innocently enough, and next thing you know, it started to run off the road, midway through the thread, but I jammed her back on the road and am staying between the lines.

I got carried away and next thing I know, Donkey Show came out of my mouth and onto the screen. I do appologize and this thread is serious, it just had a short run of humor, that may have went overboard. I wish my Gun was Over Boared OUT! :D

See, it can happen in a flash. Let's get back to my M&P Sport II and please tell me if there is anything else I need to know, do, before I go shooting?
