S&W SW22 Victory Frame/Upper?

Howdy folks,

I ordered up a new SW22 Victory yesterday. I realize the frame and upper are stainless steel but is it MIM or cast? I know its not forged or billet, I can see the seems in pictures.

Hopefully its a great working gun, was surprised to read about so many complaints about them when looking further today...

My victory is about a month old and runs like an ape with its butt on fire! I believe those early production woes have been corrected. As an old machinist, I too have pondered the metallic make up. I'm leaning towards the bolt mechanism being cast, not sure about the barrel. I was amazed to find this gun had no machining burrs anywhere....NONE(even Kimber can't say that)! Oh by the way...the takedown screw has enough factory loctite that looks like a big booger stuck on it. Leave the booger on the screw. I've had no loosening while firing at all. Be careful tightening the grip screws. Yep I twisted one off(altamont replacement screws 17$ plus shipping).

Congrats on your purchase. You won't believe the fun you will have with this pistol.

I've had mine for 18 months now and have over 2,000 rounds downrange. At first my barrel would loosen after about 50 rounds. I began carrying an allen wrench to tighten when necessary. It got better when I learned how much to tighten ( I clean after every firing) and the problem went away when I bought a #61 o-ring from John Deere (part # 440440000) for $1.49.



I now have a red/green dot on it.

Retired toolmaker here I also worked in a PM shop for a few years. The lower receiver looks to be cast or forged to me. The configuration doesn't look to lend itself to the PM process without a lot of machining afterwards. The barrel looks like a easy job for a CNC lathe and made out of bar stock. But I have been wrong before.

Thanks for the replies guys. I also ordered up the TK trigger kit, magazine disconnect replacement and a pair of sweet looking Altamont grips The after travel screw on the TK trigger looks a bit questionable, is it held in with many threads?

I briefly looked at a SW22 Victory at our club last year but didn't pay a lot of attention to it and I ordered mine online so I didn't get to check it out further at a LGS. Is the black handle part of the frame composite or aluminum?

No. The grip (that which unscrews) is polymer. The frame is stainless steel.

I guess "stocks" would be the right term.

Thanks for the reply. Wasn't sure since you don't see a lot of SS items done over in black, at first I thought that part was maybe black anodized aluminum.

After fiddling around about an hour, I finally got the hammer group pin in place...Whew got that done. Just to make sure everything was seated right I cocked the hammer...Uh Oh big mistake. Back to the video and sure enough its doesn't show to cock the hammer...Great now I'm out of sequence. I can't figure how to release the hammer, SO, I take it apart again. Duh...it takes even longer this time to reassemble. Ok, moving along to the trigger now. This is easier than the hammer group so it's running along smooth now. Here comes the detent and spring....sprong.....it flies out, hits me on the chest and bounces who knows where? Got lucky, after bout 10mins searching around....I look in my shirt pocket. Ok, out comes the gallon bag(can't chance that spring launching again).My two hands and the pistol inside the bag?? Nah, that ain't happenin....pondering, it appears the trigger bar flap that holds the spring in... needs to be more towards the rear? Wiggling and fiddling, I just can't center it over the hole. Reluctantly I cock the hammer and BINGO ...slip the detent/spring under the bar and done. Be careful when removing the safety detent spring( its V shaped)... I forced it out, bent it...now the safety is floppy loose. Finally got the shape bent back right. Safety is tighter than before now. Blue Loctite is mandatory on the travel screws. If those 1st shots with the new trigger were at an indoor range....I'd be one of the goobs that owns a hole in the ceiling

The grip is indeed polymer but the black portion behind the grips of the lower receiver is also plastic/polymer, not SS or aluminum

Well I finally received my new S&W SW22 Victory today after waiting 3 weeks for the government to approve the transfer to me.

The gun looks alright aside from a bit of pitting and rust on the so called SS barrel and the fact that some of the frame is polymer when advertised at SS. I will live with since its a cheap shooter to start with

There is zero lube anywhere on the gun, no biggie I can solve that. The mags feel pretty cheap, both of the rear sight rails are plastic.

The box says "Made In the USA" but most of it sure looks and feels like it was made in China lol

On the positive side, the take down screw appears to have a red nylock patch on it, not just regular Loctite dribbled on in.

I will be takin'er to the range on Friday!
