What Are YOU Cooking Today!!??

Wandered out back after dinner and saw flames flickering under the grill in the dark.Several pitchers of water finally got it it out.Figured grease had dripped in the leaves until I noticed the wheels were gone.It sits right next to a cedar fence

Finishing up here withmy slow cooker pork ribs. Just a basic dry rub and slow cooked on low for 6 hours in Coke! (The drink, not the white powder). Afterwards taken out, glazed with bbq sauce and placed in the oven at 400° for 20 min

I was with you,,, right up to lamb,,, :(

That is one meat that has never darkened our doorway,,,
the wife will not even discuss the subject,,,

Actually, my son surprised me and ordered a meal sent in.

Had steak, a baked potato, salad, and mixed veg. Pretty good.

He did this from several hundred miles away and a local delivery service brought dinner. I was alerted to expect it and told him what I wanted.

We were going to order from Outback, but they don't work with contract delivery services and their own delivery zone is limited, very near the restaurant. Thankfully, another well known restaurant does deliver here.

I was going to open some canned veg. and an envelope of salmon. Nice surprise!

Since you posted this yesterday...

I can proudly say that I cooked chicken and dumplings last night. I've been wanted real southern chicken and dumplings. I tried a recipe that was nothing like I ever saw or tasted. It was awful. But when my Dad died I got my Mom's old cookbook. When I made it, it wasn't quite like Mom used to make, but it was a LOT closer than the 'stuff' I made before. There are a few variations, but the best kind is with the dumplings rolled into a sheet and cut into strips (noodles) but getting the stock/sauce/'gravy' part wasn't quite right, a little thin, but I think i can fix that. This time I used the 'drop' dumplings which are the second best in my book, but it is easier. I don't have much space to do a big rolling pin job, but I'll get to it sometime.

rwsmith,,, I can make a drop dumpling to die for!! :D

I use a mini food processor,, using a spoon to mix them will kill me,, too much whipping,,,

2 eggs,, 3 tablespoons of water,, a little salt,,
keep adding flour (NOT self rising!!) until the mini processor almost stalls.

Then start spooning into boiling water,
Wet the spoon in the boiling water before you start spooning.
The smaller, the better, kinda about a half teaspoon each.

They are so good,, I gotta stay away from them.

My favorite way to use them?
Mom used to "fry" them in bacon fat, then mix in some eggs and cook like scrambled eggs.

WOW!! :)

I'm going to make two pecan pies today. One for a party next weekend and the other for the freezer and Christmas.

Pork tenderloin in a sweet brine since last night, made the white BBQ sauce
from the recipe off the Duke's mayo jar at the same time.
Weber grill set up with a charcoal snake and cherry chunks around a
drip pan with water, lemon juice and garlic chives.
Will fire up around halftime.

I've got a heap of beef short ribs that I had sitting over night in a dry rub I made. I'm going to now put them in a marinate of soy sauce, dry sherry, ground ginger, mustard powder, light brown sugar and fresh rosemary and thyme for a few hours. I'm going to start them in the oven and finish them on a hot grill for a nice char. To be served with roasted garlic mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus spears with toasted honey pecans. I have some peaches soaking in red wine that I'll top with fresh whipped cream and shaved dark chocolate for dessert.
Obviously to be followed by a "fat and happy nap" before bed!

I think strip steak today. Broiled with veggies.

When I first worked in the fast food biz as a kid. We served a strip steak with fries and slaw as a steak dinner. The meat is so tender. The owner of the place would take afternoons off we would make steak sandwiches on hard rolls. They were awesome.

How about breakfast?!?

For today 2 duck eggs. Two different types of bacon made locally by a small farm, not grocery store bought. The strips were aged in red wine and I forget what the round ones are.

On the side we have some Brie (spelling?) cheese and natural red caviar from Alaskan salmon caught by a friend of mine, then given to a specific company that specializes in making caviar!

Mmmmmm!!!!
