Dick's CEO is showing his company's true colors with this dumb, political move. All gun owners should turn their backs on Dick's, and support local mom & pop gun stores that don't engage in self imposed, feel good bans.

"Dick's Sporting Goods Urges Congress To Act"

WASHINGTON, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Dick's Sporting Goods Inc, a prominent seller of guns in the United States, said on Wednesday it will permanently stop selling assault-style rifles after the massacre at a Florida high school that has reopened a fierce debate over gun control in America.

The company will also stop selling high-capacity magazines and will not sell any guns to people under age 21, Dick's Chief Executive Ed Stack said in an open letter on the company's website and in television interviews.

The CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods is the new Bill Ruger.

In his letter to members of the House and Senate on 30 March 1989, Bill
Ruger stated in that which has come to be known as "The Ruger Letter":

"The best way to address the firepower concern is therefore not to try to
outlaw or license many millions of older and perfectly legitimate firearms
(which would be a licensing effort of staggering proportions) but to
prohibit the possession of high capacity magazines. By a simple, complete,
and unequivocal ban on large capacity magazines, all the difficulty of
defining "assault rifles" and "semi-automatic rifles" is eliminated. The
large capacity magazine itself, separate or attached to the firearm, becomes
the prohibited item. A single amendment to Federal firearms laws could
prohibit their possession or sale and would effectively implement these
objectives."

In addition to the furor amongst hunters, sportsmen and shooters caused by
"The Ruger Letter", Mr. Ruger made additional comments during an interview
with NBCs Tom Brokaw that angered 2nd Amendment proponents even further, by
saying that "no honest man needs more than 10 rounds in any gun…" and, "I
never meant for simple civilians to have my 20 and 30 round magazines…"

Ol' Billeh has passed to his eternal reward. He is gone, but never forgotten. His legacy of banning magazines continues.

As a long time customer, I just got through voicing my displeasure with this announcement from Dicks to their company contact link, and would recommend others should as well. I will no longer shop there, and made those feelings clear. They should stick with the high profit margin stuff, like jock straps....

Dick's Sporting Goods has drank the Koolaid... Let's take our money elsewhere and Dick's can hope the gun grabbers and knee jerkers will be the little blue pill they need to keep going.

Thankfully, we have a number of stores in my area... In fact Cabela's just sponsored its NRA Day I believe. Bye bye, Dick's!

(Letter send to Dick's advising them I am no longer a customer.)

Oh brother! I'm gettin' sick of this! Just like I was told as a kid, "Common sense is the least common of the senses!"

Okay, let's really examine this whole thing.

First off, my lever action .45 Colt is a rifle. Period. Nothing more.

My Ruger M77 bolt action is a rifle. Period. Nothing more.

My Colt 6920 AR 15 is a rifle. Period. Nothing more.

"Assault" is an action and can be used with any type of tool, whether it be a hammer, a chain saw, or a 2-inch pen knife. For example, I can assault someone with a paper clip, but when push comes to shove, the instrument I used is still a paper clip.

The only reason they're applying the term "assault" to certain types of firearms is because they have been blinded by media hype and certain political individuals who don't know the difference between manure and honey.

Unfortunately, Dick's has chosen to get in line with that bunch. Well, that's their choice. They better not complain to me when they find that they're losing customers who have a lot more common sense than they do.

Look at comments on some of the liberal news websites. They are all excited about it. But they are all people that never shop there because they sell guns and still won't shop there because they still sell guns.

The people that do shop there because they sell guns will now be shopping somewhere else. They did not save a single poor innocent little kid. They did not gain any new customers. But they did throw away about half of the ones that did have and chased away most possible future ones. Maybe the CEOs of Dicks and Gander Mountain can get together and teach a business class at Harvard next year.

But AR-15 is black and scary and can make you wet the bed.

I have come close on more than one occasion to buying something from them. Sure glad I always bought that which I sought elsewhere.
I'd like to see them all weighing 90 lbs and standing in line for cold soup and stale bread....

I honestly do not see how any company like Dick's can stay in business. They are all located on prime real estate, and their overhead has to be through the roof. Years ago we went into one out of curiosity, there wasn't but a handful of people in the store. Same for when we visited Gander Mountain. A high mark up is useless without customers.

Now they will lose even more customers.

BTW I believe online gun stores that also have brick, and motor will still sell AR's.

As a gun owner, this is absolutely non-news. Dick's have never been friendly towards firearms that are not strictly for hunting. When they took over Galyan's they dumped all the handguns on those grounds. So, I snagged a 686 at wholesale and have never been back since. Can't get excited I'm afraid.
