Revolver guy considering to buy the new M&P .380 Shield EZ

I will not own a striker fired pistol. I was trained on .45acp DA/SA, external hammer, decocker. That is what I own and carry. I have several, bought new. Each generation comes up with their own well liked firearm, just as their music.

This gun is not striker fired, it has an internal hammer.

Picked up the wife's new EZ today. Can't wait to get it to the range this Sunday! Going to do a direct comparison to her Sig P238 (stellar pistol, BTW), and my new-to-me Taurus PT638. Going to be a fun day!

I gotta ask, why not? Then, why are you in the M&P Pistol forum at all? I mean if you don't like them, certainly your choice, why spend time here? This forum is mostly about striker fired guns.

And maybe an occasional revolver or earlier hammer fired semi auto?

My LGS got them in yesterday, and I showed up early this morning at opening. All they had left was the display.

With a hands on inspection, it was everything claimed. It even had a raised part on the slide that acted like ears. I bought it.

The only down is nobody seems to have magazines yet. Has anybody here been able to find them yet?

I can help with those of us who want extra magazines for the .380 M&P Shield EZ. I called Smith customer service on Feb. 26th to purchase extra mags. They told me "We don't have them since all the ones produced are being produced for the guns being shipped being this is a new gun." OK, I can understand that so I did some digging on the net and I FOUND THE MAGAZINES!! A company called Three Gun Nuts in Spokane Valley, WA. (ThreeGunNuts.com)HAS THEM FOR SALE. $27.95 & USPS Shipping total $32.68 each. Talk to Alan Kirk. I've got 3 coming.

Given the gun is larger but lighter than a Shield you could be right. It wouldn't be the first time someone copied a web page for a different gun and missed something when they were modifying it for a new gun.

We need someone with both a 380EZ and a magnet to know for sure.

Magnet sticks hard, not aluminum.

I have one on the way. Won't likely see it till mid to late this coming week, though. I'll be happy to take a magnet to the slide, and report back.

Remember that some stainless alloys will pull a magnet some because of a higher carbon steel content.

Except those don't belong here either. This forum is for the M&P pistols. M&P revolvers belong in the revolver section. Other S&W semi-auto pistols belong in the other semi-auto forum.

I was just asking out of curiosity. I mean, I don't have any S&W revolvers so, I don't hang out in those forums. I certainly don't go there and say, "I don't really like revolvers..."

Then again, maybe he just clicked on the New Posts link and didn't realize he was in the M&P Pistol forum.

Thanks so much for the tip, I just ordered four.

The guy asked me what's going on, they are selling magazines like hotcakes, but don't even have the guns yet. :D :D

Just FYI, Midwayusa has them (380 Shield EZ Magazines) in stock for 24.99. Just ordered 3 plus a couple for my M2.0 C 9mm

The EZ is made with and without thumb safety. (Like most of the other Plastic M&P family.)

I swing both ways, my PM&P 9 has no manual safety, but I also shoot a lot of 1911.

But is the trigger stroke and grip safety enough for the non-enthusiast who might not practice enough to reflexively hit the thumb safety on the presentation?

If you are going to arm someone who was unhappy with both the usual auto's recoil spring to fight and the usual revolver's DA to drag through, you need simple.

Thread should read: Revolver guy looking for headache.
Buy a Tomcat instead. You never have to cycle the slide. The Cheetah is also a good route.

Not sure why you would say the 380 EZ would be a headache? We love ours. Regarding the Tomcat, I fired one once. Not impressed. FTF's all over the place. Maybe it was the particular pistol I was using? And the Cheetah, I had one (model 86). Excellent gun, and beautiful craftsmanship. But, being a blowback design, it will kick like a mule compared to the 380 EZ.

Handed the gf a m&p 9 m2.0c and had her rack the slide. After showing a little better technique, wasn't really an issue.

Then handed her the 380 ez. She hadn't handled either before, knew nothing about them, brand, model, caliber, nothing. I didn't say anything, just swapped them out after she mastered racking the 9c slide. She racks it, instant surprised look, looks at me and says 'wow, that's easy! How's it kick?' I said we'd find out this weekend, it's supposed to be a bit warmer, less windy out.

I guess s&w got the name right!

Got a chance to shoot a couple mags through the ez. Can't wait to get more time in with. It's such a natural shooter! Shot from 10 yards, didn't miss a single shot at pop cans, a 3" plastic toy and a 2"x2" vertical board.

All cases landing about 2-3' away. Have only tried Remington 380 umc, 95 gr fmj. Functioned exactly as it should.
