Alternative Whiskey / Mixed Drink Thread for the Low Brow Amongst Us

Young and dumb I tried Seagram's and Canada Dry... gin and ginger ale.
Thought they were related. Sort of worked if I recall...
I worked with a young Polish fella, looked like Mr. Clean but twice as big.
He once told me how he and his buddies would stretch their vodka zloty's back in the old country. It involved the bottle, a funnel with a length of tubing, a really good friend and dropped trousers.

When I was drinking it was double shots of Canadian club, like 15 shots to one beer. Since we're all drinking to get to the end result of feeling good I feel I'm going there in the fast lane. I don't like mixed drinks.

My drink of the day was Windsor Canadian and water or coke, same way using Canadian Mist
I still drink Ameretto straight on the rocks or with Coke.;)

After 30+ years of drinking Tanqueray, I have switched to Seagrams. In my G&T, or Singapore Slings, I can't tell the difference. Seagrams gin is half the price.

If you really wanted to be low brow you need some of that Thai whiskey which sold for a quarter a fifth in 1965. Lower your eyebrows right to ground level.

That'd be Mekong Whiskey. I recall it tasting kinda like rum.. Used to mix it with coke and lemon, like a Cuba Libre, on visits to Thailand back in the day.

When I was young and relatively penniless, a six pack of A&P brand beer was $0.89. Went through quite few of those...

In my forties, when I was at the height of my drinking — I still drink, but have slowed down an awful lot — I was asked by a senior corporate colleague, who was amazed at my tolerance, "What do you drink at home?"

I responded, "Whatever's left."

(Like I said, I have slowed down a lot, thankfully, which is surely why I am still around to tell the tale a coupla decades later...)

From my younger days, Everclear and Welchs grape juice. Also known as Purple Jesuseseseses(after you have had a few).

I make my "Mexican" coffee with El Presidente brandy, which is inexpensive.

Most of my drinking these days is Shiner beer, several to choose from, and short shots. I have a couple old pre-Pro shot glasses that probably hold a ounce if you fill them to the brim. I pour one half full of Grey Goose vodka or Don Julio 1942 tequila and drink that with my beer. Yes, neither of those is cheap, but I do not drink much any more so they last quite a while.

El Presidents Brandy! Wow! Haven't thought about that one in a long time.
Don't know if its available here or no.
Don't spend much time in the Brandy zone!
Everclear - way back, was stationed in Indiana.
It's wasnt available there but anytime any of us wandered over that Illinois line, we would get a gallon.
It's the only legal booze that I ever bought in a gallon jug.
I have purchased kerosene and paint/thinner in gallon jugs.
But that's different, sort of,

Bacardi white rum and tonic with a generous aqueese of lime. It's a great summer drink.

I've taken a liking to Ancient Age for sippin'. It's bottom shelf, $13/fifth at my local liquor store, but I like it. Initially I bought a bottle on a lark after seeing Raylan Givens drinking it in the later seasons of Justified.

Also, I've seen a few posts mentioning Everclear. Back in my college days, we'd mix that with Gatorade. Get you blackout drunk and wake up without much of a hangover. Tried it again for old time's sake a few years back, poured the glass out after the first sip. We sure were dumb in our youth!

Been a number of years since I indulged, but Canadian Mist was a pretty nice bang for the buck. I liked mine with ginger ale.

Scoresby is a nice blended Scotch for the money.

Drinking out I would usually have one or two call drinks & then switch to the cheap swill. ;)

In the govt store in Canada they always seem to have some kind
of whiskey coming out of bond. One year back in 80s they had
33yr old Rye, Hudson Bays Finest. This stuff was the smoothest
whiskey I've ever had. It was so smooth it was dangerous. I
ended up buying Two 1/2 crock jugs of it to take home. A lot of
Canadian blended is smooth like Crown but no where near what
that rye was.

I admit to having a bottle of Makers Mark in the cupboard along with several bottles of Crown. 40 yrs ago just married going to a lot of parties it was Black Velvet and coke or 7up oh the Black Velvet I have drank.

My go to is Elijah Craig. Not sure if that's too expensive for this conversation. Redemption Rye or High Rye Bourbon is cheaper but still good. And I like me some E&J Apple Brandy

I'm well known to enjoy some Evan Williams or Kentucky Tavern mixed with coke. Cheap and not too bad mixed. I do remember the days when the cheapest available to me was Kentucky Deluxe goodness that stuff was awful.

My first experience with liquor was homemade moonshine and sweet tea. I had some not long ago and it wasn't too bad. Right now I'm sipping a Jim Beam and Sprite Zero. I was at the distillery last week so I still have a little left. They all taste the same after about four of them.
