My riding buddy's and I just returned home yesterday from a 5 day motorcycle trip to the Adirondack Mountains. We based ourselves out of Lake George where the Americade Motorcycle rally is held every June. This was my 6th time attending but was the best so far! The weather was spectacular for riding - in the 60's and low 70's every day, not a drop of rain, and very low humidity (not typically the case). We rode into rural Vermont, around Lake Champlain and took a relaxing ferry ride across it. We spent another day riding up to where the Hudson Headwaters are in NY. There is a great museum there (The Adirondack Experience) located in Blue Mountain NY that we spend half the day at. There were nice collections of antique firearms, stuffed wildlife, real hunting cabins from the early days, and living quarters of all types including Fur Trapping Camp shelters. Quite educational and interesting! We also rode up to Lake Placid and enjoyed some terrific scenery.
We stayed at a great Hotel located right on Lake George and we were 50 feet from the Lake. The hotel we stayed at was within walking distance of the main part of town where all the activities, music and restaurants are located. One thing we NEVER do is ride to dinner - because we will not ride after drinking! We walked the rest of the evenings since it was clear and cool out, and the safe way to travel after enjoying some adult beverages.
We enjoyed a few nice Cigars, some fine Bourbon's and had no issue with any of the Bike's during the 1,000 mile adventure. There were 9 of us in total, although some are not in the picture below.
The great part about Americade (at least for us) is that it is not as wild as the other Bike Rally's I've been to - in fact it's probably the most subdued and the average rider that attends is closer to my age (64). Mostly regular family guys, self employed, upstanding and just a really nice bunch of people.
Pictures from right to left:
1) a view from my room
2) the town filling up with riders
3) a view from our table while eating lunch in VT
4) some of the Guy's and Gal
5) on the Ferry from VT back to NY
