Mossberg Shock Wave

I have the 12 gauge with an Opsal converter. Love it to pieces. Best thing since sliced bread. Out looking for Bears with a bad attitude but tough to find in Florida. Guess Hogs will have to do.

I believe they make it in a .410 as well. I want one, but trying to decide on which caliber.

I got my son the 12 gauge version for his birthday. He loves it.

It is a sturdy gun - based on the 590, not the 500.

The recoil isn't bad, and once you get the hang of aiming like a big two-handed pistol at eye-level hits are easy to make.

I was going to get one for myself, but I may hold out for the new Remington 870 version with the wood grip and fore-end.

I just picked this one up from my dealer two days ago. It’s the Remington 870 TAC-14 in 12 gauge, based on the 1980’s U.S.Marshalls Remington WP870 (Witness Protection). The Hardwood model will hold 5+1 just like the Mossberg. If this week of rain would stop I’d get out and shoot it. I ordered a case of Fiocchi Low Recoil 12 ga. 00 Buck for it, but will practice mostly with bird shot.

U.S. Marshall’s in the 1980’s protecting prisoners.

Some good tips from Thunder Ranch Clint Smith on how to use them.

I did just that. I picked up my new Tac-14 Hardwood last week. It is very reminiscent of the US Marshal's WITSEC gun.

Sorry, no pics yet, but I did run 5 rounds of #8 through it when I got home. It is a handful of fun :D

That’s the key phrase for the Shockwave too.

I don’t own one, but I’ve had the chance to try out a friend’s. Lots of fun, but any really practical application escapes me. When it first came out, we had some lengthy threads here where folks came up with all kinds of rationalizations for it, but it does nothing that couldn’t be done better with either a good handgun or a full-size defensive shotgun.

Except it does look really mean. So if you’re into robbing convenience stores, I’m sure walking in and racking the action will ensure a smooth collection of loot :D

I've got the Shockwave in 12 and 20 and had both ManaPorted. Awesome guns.
I have a police model 870 I bought new in 1985 which I carried for 25 years. Great gun too but I would not buy anything made by Remington that is made today. The quality has gone down since being bought out by the Freedom Group.

I agree about today’s (since 2007?) Remington quality control being bad, but I believe it’s mostly when it comes to cosmetics, finish, stock finish, etc. being hit and miss. Along the same lines I wouldn’t buy a new revolver from the same company as my vintage ones, due to canted barrels, etc. But it would be hard for even those guys to mess up the tried and true 870 design.

Plus you can add some cool stuff to it.

I see that Mossberg makes a ported barrel for the 12 gauge Shockwave. $189

I got the rubber shell buffer and use the aguila short rounds, holds 9 and they have no recoil
i bought a maverick and cut the barrel down, added the shockwave grip. i also use the rubber bumper and short shells. mine holds 12 of those cause it was a higher capacity tube. i can aim down the barrel now and hold it steady for firing...its a hoot to shoot!

I already had a Maverick 88 and bought an 18.5" barrel and the shockwave grip. It is a handful with 00 buck shot.

I picked up a Remington TAC-14 also. Mainly because I could.
