They are a unique and iconic gun, and plenty fun to shoot. It offers more concealment and is less cumbersome than a full stocked shotgun but
having been a LE range officer for years I can testify that most people are better off with a full stock shotgun and very few people can shoot pistol grip shotguns as accurately.

Thought about getting the 20 gauge but just can't get too excited.....looking at the videos I've seen you still have to hold them away from your body.....so why not just have a stock? Concealed Carry just can't see it; I'm not a marshal...... truck/RZR gun........ think I've got that covered with my little 510.

Had one, sold it. It's a lot of fun if you look at it as a way to convert money to noise, but fairly useless beyond that until you put a stock on it.
edit: This is another stupid plus for the shockwave, but man is it fun to just have around the house. Something about a small shotgun just appeals to the inner child in me even if I can acknowledge it as useless.
I think I'll replace it once they start popping up used in the $200 market.
Thankfully the $180 -$240 shotgun market has better options for us currrently.

Some mentions here about truck guns. Most handguns would be bad enough but I can't even imagine firing a shotgun inside a vehicle. You would probably never hear properly again.
The two indoor ranges that I go to prohibit "hip fire". I have other options for firing my shockwaves. But that is something to consider.

Works best if you put the noisy end out the window [emoji16] I prefer hearing impairment to death. Seriously I don't envision shooting from inside my vehicle as ideal. My "truck guns" are there incase I need them for whatever reason.

"Truck guns" to me are what use to be carried in the rack in the rear window (shotgun or lever gun).... to have a utility long gun with you if needed....... not to be used from in the vehicle

For the life of me I cannot grasp the reasoning behind the assertion that Short-Barrel-er... "firearms" such as the Mossberg Shockwave or Remington TAC-14 are "useless" just because they lack a stock.
Seriously, "useless" for what, exactly? I mean, yeah, obviously is would be arguably less useful in certain roles such as Hunting, but that's sort of a moot point when neither the Shockwave nor TAC-14 were ever marketed as such, so I can only conclude that the folks who consider them "useless" mean that they're useless within their own intended role as a Home Defense firearm, which is obviously/demonstrably false given the history of similar *ahem* "firearms" and their usage by SWAT Teams.
If you want to say that the Shockwave or TAC-14 is less useful for Home Defense than a more standard Pump Shotgun with an 18" Barrel, greater magazine capacity, and a stock, then go right ahead, because assuming that you have enough space in your home to maneuver around with a full size Shotgun, you definitely have a tangible argument there, but to call it "useless" is just a gross exaggeration. An inflatable baseball bat is useless for Home Defense, a Short-Barrel-Er...Firearm is most certainly not.
And to think that I used to find it asinine that folks considered .410 Bore/.45cal Revolvers "useless" for Home Defense.

My definition of a "truck gun" (Jeep gun for me) is a gun that you use when you can get to your truck or emerge from it, and your EDC pistol isn't enough to carry you away. To me, it's a step up from the pistol when you just can't get away. Where it's carried is of little consequence, so long as it's easy to get to. I haven't seen a rifle or shotgun in a window rack in probably 30 years . . .
Not "useless" ......one would at least make a good club. 
Got to admit they do look good on TV..... Tubbs on Miami Vice made them famous...........
My understanding is the marshal's had them cut down to carry them concealed..... yet have a short range heavy weapon.....
While cool for me they rank pretty far down my list of useful/practical firearms...... YMMV...... but I doubt I'd ever practice enough to be good with one,..... again YMMV....I wouldn't want to explain one to a Police office at a traffic stop ( ya they are legal but most cops will see a 'sawed off shotgun)... with proper ID YMMV.... I don't clear houses...... I will be hunkered down..... again YMMV.

With the short barrel rifles and braces on the market, why would that shotgun with a brace and fore end with the light be illegal? Seems like manufactures are making a lot of changes without reprocussions.

The Mossberg and Remington are legal with the brace. In fact, Buds Guns has the Remington TAC-14 in stock with the brace.
