If you reach the point where you're making stacks and piles with only pathways thru the house, put the anvils on the BOTTOM.

I had an uncle who was killed in a car wreck who left his basement exactly like this. I always get a charge out of the auction announcement when it said "This sale represents a lifetime accumulation. New boxes of merchandise are being uncovered daily." I thought that was a rather diplomatic way of saying my uncle was a packrat.

A lot of guys use an old piece of railroad track. Some folks actually can shape them into pretty nice anvils that are works of art in their own right.

I have a piece of RR track, I guess I am good to go.

All I have to do now is hang out my shingle.

At 10-12 feet long, I can't fit that on my workbench. Nor do I want to rent a crane to move it.

( I know, I know, its a piece about a foot long,,,,,,,,
but that won't get a grin from anyone.)

Seriously, some of what I have seen done by some blacksmiths/forge smiths is awesome. Of course they could choose to make their anvils represent their skills if they so choose. I'm a little envious of them.

(Of course, I do much the same with wood.)

On EBay, there is a fairly healthy market for vintage Anvils and Vises...that's where I got this excellent 30's era Rock Island Anvil Vise.

That's also where I got this modern 54 pound Wilton Vise...Good deals on both of them.

Recently I've been de-accumulating.

As long as you throw out the empties and the box, shooting off a box of .38 Specials opens up about 28.125 cubic inches of storage space.

There are two chances that I or anybody I know would toss out once-fired brass, slim and none. And Slim just left town.

ME TOO LATELY.

Before having to move EVERYTHING to tile the floors, I'd of called myself more of a packrat. A week into the moving stuff, I'm feeling more like a hoarder. Still riding those mini bikes are ya? Make mine a maxi bike. Sure glad I don't have a collection of anvils to move.
