Reserved parking for veterans at the grocery store

I'll leave the close parking spots for those who need them. I'm lucky to still be able to enjoy walking.

When I was walking with a cane and wearing a leg brace after my knee surgery I still left handicapped parking spots at the American Legion for the veterans who I figured would need them more than me.

Our local wally world has their handicapped parking spaces in front of the two entrances and exits. I consider myself extremely fortunate when I find one that is empty. Seems lately everytime I go there I end up parking anywhere as those spaces are usually full. Though the fine is about $300 for someone abusing the handicapped privelege I have yet to date see anyone checking for handicapped plates, handicapped placards or mobility impaired id cards or other handicap cards. Might be interesting to see what would happen if the local police dept started doing this. I've seen the $300 dollar figure printed on the handicapped signs. Frank

Here in Iowa, they will put VETERAN on your drivers license if you show them your DD214. :)

Also a local car dealership will do $9.95 oil changes for you if your retired military or wounded Vet.

The same in NC. I got VETERAN put on my drivers license and within a week I was getting 3 or 4 calls a day from all different "veteran" groups. Just about all of them had organization names I never heard of. I only contribute to groups which I know about and never to ones which call me on the phone.

I would rather see that spot go to a handicapped person, that
needs the space.

There are a lot of Vets that have disabilities, that would like that space.

I don't always use my "Blue" parking pass if there is a good spot empty, close by, so it can be used for another person that needs it.

Handicapped , pregnant female vet.... Valet parking??????

I'm not against it, but come on, some places around here I've got to walk past half an empty parking lot of "Reserved for_______" to get to the store. Don't get a lot of pregnant women in Lowe's or Home Depot around here!!!

Actually on second thought...... don't have to go to the track anymore to get my walks in!!!!! :D

Mission BBQ puts their money (food, actually) where their mouth is.....my wife belongs to a Volunteer Organization that responds to fire and police emergencies and provides rehab services to the troops handling the emergency.....

Mission has shown up at several large incidents (Recent Newspaper shootings, Baltimore Riots, etc.) and dropped off food for the troops, along with Phone #'s and with "call us, if you need anything" instructions.

Yes, they can deliver....they have a whole fleet of these...

Our local PD has "Reserve" Officers a.k.a. Volunteer Officers with limited police powers, one of which is writing non-moving violations. They take this job VERY seriously. I was in court one time as a witness on a non traffic matter and noticed one court room was assigned all morning for traffic.....the entire docket had one reserve officer as the charging officer!!!

When I was going to physical therapy and had a temporary handicapped parking placard it seemed that often all the handicapped parking spaces were taken. I would peruse the vehicles but on their face they all seemed properly documented, which makes sense at where I was. Luckily I was in good enough shape to walk from the regular spaces.

Just a thought about the up close parking. Have you all noticed that a lot of women have been wearing workout clothes and are parking as close as possible. If they are going to the gym for a workout shouldn't they park far away to get a little extra help?? But then again some of these women and men shouldn't be wearing these outfits. They make my eyes hurt. I try to park a little ways away to get in some extra steps and I need it.

reserved parking spaces for veterans?????...........

what we vets needed, when we came home, in the 1960's - 1970's.........
