My doctors are retiring. My good dentist retired a few years ago and I picked the wrong dentist, nice guy but lacks ability. My GI guy is retiring in two months. My cardiologist is at that age. My family doctor is in his late fifties and is a shooter and has a nice boat. His last kid is about finished at OU so he may not be around long.
They were all good and would actually listen to you when you were giving information about your problem. I am going to a new GI doctor Thursday and the only blessing is that all of his medical training has been in the US. I realize that I am fortunate to have access to medical care, if not I wouldn't be here today.

I've had doctors who died or retired, too. Have concerns about many docs at the VA, but have an insurance plan now that lets me see some outside docs.

Current one is less than half my age, so I guess she'll last. :)

Good luck with your new GI specialist. And I hope you can replace the dentist and others.

Been there, my primary doctor of close to 35 years retired. Since then two others left, one retired the other died!

As I had moved about 60 miles away I still kept seeing him (my primary) till he retired. I had changed my dentist and other doctors to the much closer city (about 15 miles) so I asked them about getting a primary Doc in this area. Right off the top 3 of them recommended the same doctor, a female I might add.

I took their advice and set up a well person visit to see her. She asked me what can I do for you. I told her I'm doctor shopping and this is your interview. Guess she was not expecting that,:D but said I see. She listened to what I had to say (I really like that) had read through my rather long records and asked the right questions.

At the end of the appointment I told her you passed, she then smiled and shook my hand and said with a grin, your going to be a interesting patent. Had her now about 5 years and so far so good.

SIDEBAR,-- when I first called the office asking to get a appointment the female receptionist said Dr ******* first name is Susan will that be a problem. I said heck no I have been naked in front of females before, they normally do not laugh much.

After a bit of laughing the receptionist said I think you will do fine here!

Yeah, my primary care doc retired a couple of years ago.
I recently retired and switched to Kaiser Permanente medical coverage, and the partners still operating his partners weren't "in network: anyway, so I had to pick a new PCP. Got one in his 40's and I've only been to see him once so far. Seems OK, and he's young enough to be around a while.

I had the good fortune of having the same MD for over 50 years.

When he retired 10 years ago, he sent me to the doc down the hall. Doc #2 retired 5 years later so I'm on doc #3 now.

Doc #3 was a personal friend before I became a patient and continues to be a friend. Doc #1 was a personal friend as well. They've all become clients as well.

Nothing better than having a doc you take hunting and shooting, who takes your phone calls at all hours and who makes house calls (for me, not all patients) and who refers you to specialists he's known personally and professionally for years if you need a specialist. First name basis is just the beginning.

My docs don't do nurse-practitioners or physician assistants.

Doc #3 is enough younger than me that I doubt I'll need a doc #4.

I don't know that my health care is better than the health care folks who don't have a good long term relationship with their docs get, but I sure don't want to be one of the lemmings forced to troop through large, anonymous practices by today's healthcare system.

Only one of my doctors is anywhere close my age, and he looks like he's in better shape than I am. He used to belong to my pistol club and takes good care of me so I'll stick with him as long as I can. Most of the time now I'm seeing nurse practitioners and physician's assistants who are young enough to be my kids.

I have out-lived 3 of my doctors so far. But I go to the VAMC for care
now, so what doctor depends on what's wrong. So far they have all
been good. All younger than me too. I'm 83 now, so would hate to
think my doctor was older than me.

I'm in same boat. I moved to another state. So lost my doc, who hunted with me at times.
Had a lady for a doc for several years. She was great, but she moved to a research area.

Had the same problem with docs BUT my concern is my barber! He is older than me. Been cutting my hair for 38 years. He cuts what little hair I have left pretty good!

Finding another good one will be tough

My dentist was a childhood friend. He retired at 50 and I found a new guy who I liked. He died of a brain tumor in his 50's. New guy seems ok. My primary care guy is cutting back and only sees patients on Mondays. He is a gun guy though. Don't know what I will do when he retires.

My cancer guy is the #1 guy in the world, but he is off now as his wife has cancer. I don't know if he will ever return to practice as he is my age also.

All things that I dread.

Our family doctor specializing in geriatric medicine is about to hang up her stethoscope. She has been our doctor and friend for over 40 years. She is down to 3 afternoons a week and will likely retire at the end of this year. I have no idea what we are going to do now.

Our Dentist is young but he is aging badly. Not sure how long he is going to last. hopefully my teeth (the ones I still have) will last while he can still take care of 'em. Except for the palatal injection, you absolutely can not feel it when he gives you the lidocaine shots to numb things up. and even that in the hard palate is not as rough as every other dentist I've known does it.

So far the only Doctor that has retired on us is my Dentist that I have been using for 50 years! He was so good I use to travel 40 miles each way to see him but now in the process of trying to find someone locally that is even close to how good he was! He will be missed!

Doctors in my area are in open revolt with the hospital they're associated with. It's gone so far as failed votes of confidence. Doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. The result is a revolving door with doctors going and coming. Lost my primary two years ago and was just told by my new doctor that he's leaving n a month.
