I was on gunbroker browsing the other night and came across this revolver that I’ve never seen before, it came complete and had a buy it now of $849 so I took a shot, at first I thought it was a different version of an R8. Very limited info online. Great shape , definitly been fired. Feels balanced, thought it would be lighter. Any thoughts? Thanks

Nice find!

It looks like Product Code# 170254. Here's what the SCS&W #4 says about it:

"In 2005 The Performance Center also introduced
a 5" variation with an 8-shot unfluted titanium cylinder
with adjustable sights consisting of an orange Hi-Viz Fiber
optic with an extra interchangeable black ramp with .250"
Gold bead and black adjustable rear sight. This variation
has a unique new 2 piece barrel design and Jerry Miculek
signature grip and an extra Houge rubber grip. Suggested
Retail was $1149.00"

Basically it was the forerunner of the 327TRR8 which came out a year later in 2006.

Being a N-frame with a Ti cylinder & a Sc frame I don't know how it could be any lighter. ;) :)

.

Thank you for the info. As for the weight, I guess I was comparing it to the 327pc with the TI 2” barrel. the xtra 3” of barrel adds a bit of weight. definitly feels balanced in the hands. I’m going to try and get to the range this weekend to see how it shoots. Thanks

As for the purchase price, I really had nothing to compare it to so I figured a trr8/r8 on the second hand market would probably be in that ball park, give or take. Thanks

I have one of these which I bought from the original owner. He sold it because it was so light factory 357 Magnum ammo beat him up too much. Much milder ammo can certainly be used. I bought mine to switch the titanium cylinder into one of my 627s.

I have had one of the 327 JMs (170254) for more than a decade now

327-5.jpg

It weighs in a few ounces less than the Model 327 TRR8s or Model 327 M&P R8s

Yours is not wearing the original grips, but I see they were included in the bag of goodies .

I have found that the 5" Model 327s with their tensioned barrels are EXCEPTIONALLY accurate revolvers

The light gathering orange front sight is interesting, however I quickly changed to the Gold McGivern bead

According to bluedot37 his info stated it came with wood and rubber grips from the factory. Thanks

Most of the V-Comps' and 627 model of pistols all came with two sets of grips. A set og Hogue's and a set of wood ones.

Are those JM grips comfortable to shoot with? I haven’t tried them on revolver, just handling them they felt kinda awkward. Thanks

re JM grips

Those JM grips were OEM on my 625 in .45ACP. Sorry to report, they did not last long: I replaced them with Pachs. This M&P 340 shooter found the 625 painful to shoot with the JMs. YMMV.

The only wood grips I ever felt comfortable shooting with are the S&w N Frame combat grips, I have a 657pc in 41 mag, I picked up a used set of combats off eBay. Completely changed the feel of the revolver, i can shoot underwood xtp loads all day. I picked up a second set for my 629-4 4” mountain revolver, that was a different story. Lol let’s just say it didn’t hurt hurt, but the houge grips that where originally on it felt better with full house loads. Thanks

The JM grips are too smooth and narrow for me to use. They want to wander around too much when shooting Magnums, but I will admit that my grip strength has weakened over the years. They have been replaced with Pach Diamond Pros. The Pachs tame the recoil, and no death grip is required.
