I just bought a police turn in model 10-8.
Its serial number is A18 X****.
The shop that resold it to me indicated that it was an Australian Police Turn-in.
Can S&W verify this?
Also the Model 10-8 was manufactured between '77 and '88.
Can S&W provide a more accurate production year?

Can this revolver handle +P ammunition?

The M10-8 was manufactured from 1977-1982. I don't see a serial number listed in the Catalog that has a single A. The three letter serial numbers start in 1980.
Did you get that number from the butt of the revolver?
Yes, if it is in good shape it will handle as many +Ps as you can afford.

I pulled the number off the yoke. Is that not the place the SN is located? There is no SN on the butt.
The handle is beautiful checkered wood with no numbers.
The barrel has a lot of holter wear.
There is no play, what so ever, in the trigger in single action.

All S&W revolvers have the serial number on the bottom of the butt. You may have to remove the stocks (grips) to see it.

Model 10-8 SN location

The number on the yoke A18 X**** was also under the wood handle. But it didn't have the "A18". It is a five character number starting with "X2***". Can you zero in on a year of manufacture?
The gun shop said it is an Austrailian Police trade in and it should be able to handle +P's. Do you agree?

The M10-8 was made from 1977 to 1988. The serial numbers in those years run from 10K0001 to BBT 2293.
Does it have a barrel pin?
Yes, if it is in good shape you can shoot as many +Ps as you can afford.

It does not have a barrel pin. The serial number starts X2***. Is there an exact year of manufacture?

10-8

i have a 10- 8 serial number auf 0221 when was it mfg

I don't know what you guys are smoking but my Model 10-8 shipped in 1981 and the serial number is 9D19xxx.

K prefixes were not used on Model 10's.

The pinned barrel went away sometime prior to about 1982.

And finally the last non three letter prefix for the Model 10 was approx 30D9291, sometime in 1983. If a three letter prefix for a s/n it will be somewhere btw 1983 and 1988.

Maybe I'm wrong, but weren't the Australian Police guns 3" barrels?
From Alaska: what's the barrel length on your's? Measure from the cylinder face to the end of the barrel.
