hello from the east coast, purchased a m&p sport OR want to change the trigger out , but man did that open a new kind of worm. Someone explain the differences between single stage and two stage triggers to me and the best places to buy them.. thanks

I only have one AR with a two stage trigger and that's a Geissele national match, I would describe it as sort of a set like trigger were you feel one catch and the second one fires the rifle.
Honestly the Geissele is fine but I think they're overpriced.
Most of my other ARs have Rise Armament RA-140s or Jmt Saber drop in single stage trigger which work well for the price.

You could look at an ALG trigger depending on the pull weight you want. One model is an improvement on the OEM trigger and the other offers and improved trigger weight.

I have the Larue MBT-2 trigger in mine. It is a 2 stage and is priced at about $90. I believe it to be the best bang for the buck. It gets rave reviews on many forums devoted to AR's. In fact I have it in my home assembled 14-1/2" rifle and my 300 Blackout pistol as well. Check it out online, there are many reviews and even on you tube.

Can't beat those Larue MBT-2S triggers. Especially now as they selling for $80. I've been using the curved bow for several years and I love it. Great trigger! Last week I tried a friends straight bow. I didn't think I would like the straight bow, but I did... a lot! Wow, and amazing trigger! So much more purchase on the pad. Smooth take up, solid wall and a glass like break. Don't hesitate, order one now.

They now make them in a single stage too, but I have no experience with those.

A single stage trigger is what I like, for me I prefer to put my finger on the trigger, aim, squeeze trigger (with no pre travel)

I've installed a Timney single stage 3lb in my S&W AR15 Varmint rifle and really like it.

Put a couple hundred rounds through it and get it broke in. Do a couple hundred more and see what you think of the trigger then. You might be surprised.

1 stage: the OEM/stock AR trigger is one stage. Any movement of the trigger is going to move the sear.

2 stage: there is a take up stage (take up the slack), then you encounter the second, heavier stage where you actually move the sear.

Prior to the AR, almost all military triggers were two stage. You had the takeup/slack so you could acquire the trigger without much danger of actually firing the chambered round.

Don't get carried away with getting the lightest possible trigger pull. You should be looking for something no lighter than 3.5-4 lbs weight. The weight is actually less important than smoothness of the trigger travel. The range of factory acceptable trigger weight for the design is 5-8.5 lbs.
