Remington 1187 on sale for $249

Do you have to call each store because the on line price here is the same as in the store which is $457 (not a bad price)? And the link shows only 20 gauges with a 21" barrel which would be an awesome home defense gun but I need a bird hunting barrel, do they have longer ones on sale?

The 20 gauge is 21 inch. The 12 gauge is 28 inch. These are the only 2 1187s that I'm aware of on sale. If a local store hasn't marked them down, they most likely will. No telling how long it will take.

Better to widen your location search to see if any are within reasonable driving distance.

While all the stated prices are good, I'm hesitant to buy any new Remington product. I've had two 870s (mfg in 2007 and 09) that I had duracoaed as they tended to rust after being cleaned and stored.

I think Remington has improved the rust resistance of their finish because it was REALLY bad and I recently purchased a 12 gauge 1187 with walnut stocks and it seems to have a much better finish and the quality of the whole gun is excellent, I like it a lot. The only negative is since their shotguns are all steel they are a little heavier but I like steel and it absorbs recoil. The 20 gauge is about the perfect walking gun for quail and pheasant and not too heavy and my 12 gauge 1187 has very soft recoil.

I understand any frustration you may have. Often times I have to go to the same location several times for shift changes until I get an someone willing to find the item of interest.

I was also denied a purchase once. My uncle (who is retired PA state police) and I were accused of a straw purchase.

It is hit or miss for these things. It helps sometimes to ask the sales person to run the sku number on the handheld. If it shows up, they have it. If they further deny it, the batfe may want to know there is a missing firearm.

Just left the Lexington store. Guide indicated 2 in stock. Gun counter person said they have none. Went to customer service. Got manager to look. Scanner indicated 2 in stock. Came back. Said they have none. Back home checked stock in that store......Quanity now indicated as 1........Crooked or lazy employees???

Bought a 12 ga special purpose 870 years ago. First thing I did was spray paint it GREEN........No rust problems ever.

Possibly both? My father, BIL, friends and I have purchased many firearms this way. The quantity indicated zero stock 15 minutes after the purchase was made everytime. That's my experience, but surely there are exceptions.

I once inquired about a Weatherby at a local store. Was told it was on hold/layaway and to ask after a certain date if it was still available. I returned the morning of and the manager said it's still on hold try tomorrow. I tried again the next morning and it curiously had sold (quantity zero).

Well after claiming I had no use for one, I trotted down to the only one around me that showed one and bought it.

I had sent the link to a business client I mind who has wanted one since i met him, but would not part with the cash to buy one. The store told him that they had no such gun in stock. I went down to the store and a manager found it in the rack! I bought it before it could disappear.
Client will be picking it up from me for the sale price in a couple days.
Thanks for the heads up. Always nice to be able to help out a fellow shooter.

Huh! I hadn't had a shotgun on my radar, but for $249, it'd sure fill a "semi-auto shotgun"-shaped hole in the combined Wise_A Jr and Sr gun collection. I might even pick it up and sock it as a Christmas present.

Thanks!

That's a good one.

My favorite is being told "we dont have guns in the back" only to have the manager pull them out 5 minutes later as there still standing there watching.

Called top mgr at store and explained the 2 indicated in stock and associate told us they didn't have any/never had any. Mgr checked. 2 in stock so we went back and got one. Counter associate lied to us.

So how does one get it at $249? All my Wally Worlds show at the $457 price.

You may have to widen your search. My local store has not marked them down either.

It doesn't hurt to ask your local store to price match, but dont expect them to.

Don't under estimate the short barrel. My turkey gun has a 21" barrel and ANY turkey within 45 yards is dead. It's not the length. It's the choke and how a barrel patterns with particular loads.

How much farther will a 26" barrel shoot than a 21" barrel?..........5".

Does the $50 Remington rebate qualify for this 870? There are no price drops on this one in my area.

Yes, this one qualifies. Thanks for reminding me of the rebate. That puts the 870 at under $100 in my case.

Good luck, guys.

Closest 20 gauge was a hour north in Longmont, CO 80504, there were actually 2 there on Monday night, or that was what the website said. I checked this morning before making the drive, and now it shows the price as $124 and both are gone. That was a score for somebody. 2-20 gauge 11-87's for $250.....

Glad I saw this. I've been wanting to pick up a compact, semi auto 20 gauge for my wife. Can't beat this deal! Just got home with it. If you see stock listed, go to the store and take the upc and sku with you. They couldn't find it under the model name, but found it when they searched the UPC.
