Hello all, I have a 617 that shoots better than I can see. With my bifocals it's hard to see the front sight. I added a red dot but I think it is too big. What does the group think about the Holosun HS403B red dot? Or do you have other suggestions I could look into. I am having a hard time deciding on what to get. Thank you.

I have a Ruger Mark IV Target with T&J Tactical Integral Suppressor in which I have a Vortex Venom. It's as small as you can go. On my Ruger Mark II Target Competition I have a Ultradot Matchdot but it is ginormous.

Another option is a Primary Arms Primary Arms Advanced Microdot. The rotary version has a lifetime warranty.

My Primary Arms red dot has done well on my 500 S&W. Keeps zero, great battery life, and is hard to tell apart from my Aimpoints that cost me 4-5 times more.

The Bushnell red dot is also a good choice since you're using 22 LR. I wouldn't go cheaper than that, though. I wouldn't use Barska or Sightmark, personally.

Thank you! I'll look into all of this options.

You might also look at the Nikon P Tactical Spur. I have a few as well as the Burris and the Leupold Deltapoint Pro. I put the Nikon on par with the Leupold and it has an attractive price point of about $200 and sometimes on sale for $120!

I bough my S&W 617-4 with all that you see. The scope if fine but I also bought a complete rear sight assembly, just incase I wanted a change. Other than that I like it.

Thank you everyone for your great options, and the pics of these beautiful wheel guns!

What do you think about addressing the actual problem instead of adding something to your gun? As we age, it becomes more difficult to focus closer and eventually, we cannot see our handgun sights with clarity. I also suffered from that condition and wrote about it in a column in one of the magazines to which I contribute.

I received an email from Dr. Harold Morgan of Morgan Sport Optical in Olean, New York. He told me he could make glasses for me that would permit me to see both my sights and the target with clarity if I provided him with my lens prescriptions, whether I was right- or left-handed and the distance at which I usually shoot my handguns. I did that and received a frame and five right-eye lenses (I'm right-handed) and sure enough, one of them worked great!

Give Dr. Morgan a call at (800) 594-0175. You might also want to visit their website - Shooting Glasses for Sportsman | Morgan Optical - you'll find it VERY shooter-friendly!

I have looked into getting "shooting glasses" but I have an under developed optic nerve in my left eye. My left eye depends on my right eye to see 20/20. It's hard to explain but I have tried the different lens already and all it did was make me dizzy. Thanks for the input though.

I got along for years with install of the LPA sight set with great fiber optic tubes, non electronic remedy.

Very suitable for such as speed steel or ICORE style targets.
Eventually cataract surgery was needed. And it works out so that my various red dots (mostly Fast Fire Burris or the TRS25) are simply faster stage time than going nekkid.
