Now it's my turn. Had my eyes examined today. Before it started I told the doc that my last exam revealed a small cataract in each eye. I was told they were small and it wasn't time to deal with 'em yet. Today we never even got to the place in the exam where your get: "which is better, 1 or 2 and like that. He pulled the gizzmo back away from my face and gave me the look. He said two words:

IT'S TIME.

I have an appointment with an eye surgeon on 1/28. I'm not looking forward to the surgeries (1 week apart) But I'm very excited about getting my vision back.

The doc said I couldn't pass the eye test for my drivers license even with glasses on. I'm due to renew in June so this is all coming down at a good time. Miss Pam doesn't drive anymore and if I have to give it up I'll have to put a Uber app on my phone.

I wish I could get it done tomorrow and be done with it. sigh.........

Are you doing laser? It's so quick and painless it's amazing. And it's scary how fast cataracts can develop.

Small world Walkin Jack! Had mine done in October. Yep there is a difference for sure but ya still might need glasses for reading. Most folks do. Hope you don't need a torric lens cause insurance like my medicare only covers a basic lens. Did the doc tell you about all the eyedrops ya need for at least 6-8 weeks and the post office visits? Hopefully you don't have an asigmatism so the basic lens can be used. Cataracts only get worse so I could not see blowing money on new specs either.

You'll love the result and wonder why you were anxious about the surgery.

I'd avoid laser surgery: complications (like very bad vision) are more frequently encountered with laser than with surgery involving inserting new lenses. The complications can't be fixed, even with corrective lenses.

The only benefit the laser surgery offers is that the docs make more money because they can do more procedures in a day than they can with the lens replacement procedure.

Look into mono vision: one distance lens and one closeup (reading) lens. If the surgeon knows their business, you'll never need reading glasses.

I guess all that will get sorted out on the 28th as well. Me no comprende the post office visits but my post office is right around the corner from my house so it's an easy walk. ;)

Jack, I had my left eye done three weeks ago and I will have my right one done on Wednesday. It was painless, quick and with the Versed and the light show it was kinda pleasant.

Before my surgery my left eye was 20/300. Last week it was 20/30.

The new Omni drops from OSRX have been a great help.

Had my right eye done in October. Major pucker factor, thinking about someone cutting into my eyeball, blasting the original lens to mush, sucking it out, then inserting an artificial lens. This is from a guy who can't watch people put contacts into their eyes, I am that sensitive about my eyeballs!

First surgery, about 45 minutes prep time (eye-drops, disinfectant, etc), then into the surgical suite. IV drip with mild sedative to keep me calm, awake throughout while the good doc explained exactly what he was doing every minute. About 12 to 15 minutes later I was done. No pain. No discomfort. Wife drove me home and I spent about 2 weeks doing the eye-drops 3 or 4 times per day.

Second procedure 2 weeks later. By that time I was actually looking forward to getting it done! Another no-pain walk in the park!

Left eye required a follow-up laser treatment to eliminate some occlusions in the lens sac. Then I got my new prescription for eyeglasses. My distance vision is nearly perfect, no need for correction. I will require glasses for close work and reading in the future. I can live with that.

I have had much more difficult dental treatments! Get it done and don't worry about it!

I had both done five yrs ago, didnt feel a thing.
My BIL went to the eye Dr yesterday, he was told he might need it done in about six months.

My eyes were so bad Dr.told me he couldn't help me anymore & get the surgery done NOW.I agreed & glad I did!Been a yr.& only problem I had & have is driving at night! Saw the Dr. today & he set me up with glasses for night driving! Told me not a problem.I'm a happy camper.....driving in MIAMI FL. is NOT fun.
I know you are concerned about your "only"pair of eyes & fear a screwup! THAT....will not happen!YOU...won't be able to stop grinning!

Did one manual lens breakup 10 years ago, one laser disintegration last year. Both were best bang for the buck surgeries I've ever had, 20/20 distance vision in one eye, 20/15 in the other.
Only had to use the steroid and antibiotic drops for about two weeks, no problem at all.
One followup visit at one week to check eye and remove eye patch, one followup at ~ 1 month for refraction. I chose fixed lens distance, so I got reading glasses for closeup and mid range glasses for computer and shooting.
Don't worry - you'll be very happy!

Had glasses since I was 9. Left eye in 04, right eye in 07.
Passed the eye test for driving with no glasses and I can see how white should be! 20-30 in left eye & 20-40 in right eye, Dollar store reading glasses for reading. Best thing I have ever had an operation for.
Better then the hernia a few years ago..... :(

Not to sound flippant but I had cataract surgery several years ago and it was surprisingly painless and my vision was better than ever. It did require glasses for close up work or reading, however. Fear not my friend.
