In about 6 hours, the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club will make its 134th trek to Gobbler's Knob to commune with the Seer of Seers, the Prince of Prognosticators, Punxsutawney Phil. According to legend, in the ancient dialect of Groundhogese, Phil will tell the President of the Groundhog Club which scroll to read to the assembled multitude to announce Phil's observation as to whether or not he saw his shadow. If Phil sees his shadow, it means we have 6 more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, spring is just around the corner. As an Ambassador of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, I invite you to join in observing this long standing American tradition.

I am less concerned about the next 6 weeks than i am about the next 60 hours! Big storm blowin' in from the North. Rocky Mountain West is going to get hammered over the next couple of days. Enjoy the Day. Start off with Phil and finish up with the big game and stay safe!

All over again?

Yup!:D

We have trees budding out here already. Some spring flowers are appearing also. I'm going to plant some onion sets tomorrow. Don't you just love it?

Phil called an early spring.

Our weatherman agrees, and predicted getting through the rest of this winter without any snow accumulation for the entire season.

Yep—just saw Phil says early spring—making the prediction with snow falling! But he looked to me like he just wanted to go back to bed, so maybe he was tricking his human tormenters. However, I will say, mid-70’s today in Arkansas and my daffodils in the back yard are trying to peak out!

I don't know about "early spring" but today, after 4 rainy and foggy days, it's sunny, and 66 F.

Do you guys have a magical, season predicting animal also?

The animals here in the Carolinas are in a rowdy mood.

As far as I know, no. But snowy winters aren't really a big concern in the Country. And where I live(35 miles South of Lisbon on the coast), during my lifetime, it snowed for 20 minutes 12 years ago. Last snow before that was in 1941.:D

Six more weeks of winter means until March 15th which is an early spring. "Just around the corner" means towards the middle of March. Down here it is against the law to plant tomatoes before March 19th (St. Joseph's day). Seems like whatever happens consensus is that Spring is right at the Ides of March. COme to think of it, March 14th is right around this time as well ;)

In Central Ohio, we need to wait until May 15th because of frost, so Mother's Day is the beginning of putting out the "starts". I've seen frost on the 21st (about 8-10 years ago) There weren't enough plants left for replanting. We had maybe 10 Roma and about 25 Cherry volunteers that year (the tomato sauce was naturally sweet that year!)
