Your Family

Definitely family!

12 years ago a friend asked me to 'watch' "Speedos" (She named him that because of his lightning quick speed back in his youth) and his brother "Chumly" (the walrus...passed away in 2017. Really miss him). Been babysitting the cat since then. She's not getting him back.

Speedos ..

I have a sister who's tried to adopt every critter she's come across in her 60 some years lol. Some years ago she called our mother about a scruffy little dog that needed a home before it was put down by the shelter. Ma and her boyfriend,a pair of fierce 80 yr olds, drove 400 miles one way under blizzard warnings to get Sadie and totaled her Explorer with an excursion off road somewhere near Casper,WY (This is why I had a stroke,my family drives me nuts lol) Sadies been here about 8 years and she's a sweetie. Fig I found just down the road at the local cat shelter. We had mice and that's my excuse ;-)

Those two remind me of two of my now-departed cats. Speedo reminds me of Joe, who "emigrated" from next door many years ago because I was home a lot more than his "owner" (ie primary staff person) and he needed more attention, so that was that. Unfortunately I had to have him put down 2 years ago due to renal failure :(

"Chumly" was the name of a lovely tabby that had been semi-adopted by a couple up the road but wandered down to my place in 2004 as a young fella and decided that THIS was home. Surprisingly, he got along with the other cats just fine. I gave him the name "Cholmondeley", which the Brits pronounce "Chumly" (to keep the foreigners on their toes :) ), but he became "Mr. Chumbles" and was perhaps my fav. of all the cats, although that's a dangerous thing to say. He disappeared in June 2015 and I still miss him :(:(

Part of the family. We have had 6 different cats during our 30 year marriage. All of them rescues of one sort or another. Buster, Gizmo and Noel have all crossed the Rainbow Bridge while Snickers, Bubba and Teeny are the current crew. There is a special place in our hearts for all of them. I think my wife and I have bonded even more than average since we had no children. They have made our house a home, with their toys scattered about, happy eager excited faces looking out the window when you come up the drive and the periodic tiffs over their preferred window lounging space. The lazy afternoons curled up with them. We are blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy many pet's during our lifetime so take advantage of it and cherish the special times with them.

No offence meant to all the dog lovers here (and I love them, too) but it seems cats have taken over the thread. They're good at that.

I just remembered this pic of my neighbour's dog, Nellie (had to be put down at Christmas, alas) and her slightly-daffy b&w cat, Toby, who is not much of a people cat but had a longtime crush on Nellie.

That is too cute. It looks like the critters just knew to pose for the picture. :)

You'd think, but I have lots of pics of them curled up together. Toby was the instigator; Nellie kind of sighed and put up with it. They were definitely The Odd Couple. Now that Nellie is gone, Toby is warming up a bit to my neighbour.
These pics were taken a couple of Christmases ago when my neighbour was visiting her folks in VT:

I don't have a pet however I do (did) have 7 feral cats that I feed twice a day and give them fresh water.

Tonight coming home the patriarch, Tom Cat was in the middle of the road and was obviously hit with a car.

Of all the cats he was the only one that would let me pet him. I couldn't pick him up but I could make him purr.

He was over a mile from home. The other cats hardly touched their dinner tonight.

Back in July my daughter and grandkids caught all 6 kittens.
They never let anyone ever touch them again.

Your's truly. ;)

Here's 8 of them back in Oct. 5 kittens & 3 adults who are siblings.
One kitten isn't in the picture, its just out of view.

Now there are only 6. 4 kittens and 2 adults, sisters.

The picture above reminds me how untrue the old cliche about dogs and cats being enemies is. We've had both living in harmony together for many years. One of our cats, Buddy, preferred to spend his time with the dogs rather than the 2 other cats we had at the time. When he came into our home as a kitten we had a big black Lab (Trevor), that kind of took him under his wing and from then on I think Buddy thought he was a dog. After Trevor passed away he still hung out with the new dogs instead of the cats. Here he is with Zena.

Here's an old picture showing 5 of our former cats doing what cats do best.

We also at one time had a cat that was a bit different and a little larger than most pet cats.

This is Fiona. My wife and I adopted her almost 2 years ago. She is DEFINITELY a family member. We love her to no end. Actually we feel blessed to be able to live in her house. Last night she stared at me until I got off the sofa. She then curled up where I was laying lol. She's a mess lol. But she's our mess!

Luna(also known as toons) came to my house August of 2019, and put it back in order after losing my Jack Russel that was 17. I had lost my Dachshund about a year prior that was 13. I had a huge hole in my heart that needed filling, and she needed a forever home from the rescue. We have found our new best friends in each other, and while I can't speak for her, I will not be looking for another one. Here she is today sitting in her spot on the couch wondering what the sound outside is. She has learned that it's okay to get in the bed with us when it's just my lady or me alone, but when we're in bed together, she sleeps on the floor in her dog bed next to the bed. She moans and groans about it usually, but eventually decides to just deal with it and goes to sleep. She is a big baby, but she looks intimidating, at least she did before the kids out the flower on her collar the other day. It was a Valentine's day gift for her from my 2 daughters.
