Model 29-3 Classic Hunter 6" with silhoutte front sight - 1987 Lew Horton PICS ADDED

Is it still possible to call Lew Horton and get information on any of many specials they had various gun companies build? I saw internet news that said Lew Horton was going out of business.

Wow that there is purdy.... that's a model 29? In hard chrome? How has she held up over the years? What's your round count and preferred bullet/size? And who makes the grips sir?

Bought it new in I believe 1989 from the SF Gun Exchange.

It's like new, been shot a lot.

My preferred load is a home cast 429244 that comes in at 265g from my alloy and I use 22g H110/W296 to move them.

Grips are Hogue. Mr. Hogue made this set.

That's an awesome looking 29 OP. I really like a lot of the Lew Horton runs of the various S&Ws.

Yes, the Lew Horton guns are pretty darn cool......wish I had more of them, but the pre-model number guns are my focus......these guns just pop up from time to time and find their way home with me.

Will probably trade it off at some point for something that fits my interest better.

Storing with the grips off is always a good idea, imo.
Especially rubber.

Bought a set of sq. to rd. wood combat stocks for my CH just because I think they look better than the rubber.

My late friend used it for informal target shooting but never hunted with it.

I haven't shot it since I got it.

Can someone point me in a holster direction for this sweet piece??

IF you can locate one, a Roy Baker Pancake holster is my choice. It does an excellent job of distributing the weight and making a big N frame "disappear."

They are on the big auction site occasionally.

All three of the holsters on the bottom of the photo are for 6 inch N frames. The one without a thumb break is what I carry my 29-3 in when deer hunting.

I have a model 686, 357 magnum with a silhouette front sight very similar to the M29 above. Shoots great and one of the last guns in the herd to be sold.

I have one. Bought it new in early '88. Took a few deer with it. It has some wear in the usual places. Even have the Shooting Times magazine somewhere. Far as I can see on the box mine wasn't a Lew Horton item.

I have to say it sure does look nicer with the footballs on it.

I haven't changed the grips on mine for 2 reasons.

1) Those ugly Hogue Monogrips are great for shooting

2) Those ugly Hogue Monogrips were the factory grips for this gun.

So even though they look like someone squeezed a big old handful of tar around the grip frame, I think I'll be keeping them.

Nice work and it looks fantastic!

I am not sure if I will keep mine, but if I do I will put some wood furniture on it eventually.

I saw the post in the classifieds sir, fair trade if you can find.... I'm on the big bore kick.

BC38: I agree the factory rubbers are ugly, I want to feel the power... and it looks so much nicer... still keeping the rubbers for sure, I dont split things up like that

I pulled the listing for now.....may end up getting rid of a newer 3" 629 .44 Magnum to thin the herd instead of letting the Classic Hunter go.....

Lew Horton 657 41 Classic Hunter

Great guns Larry!!

I also own the .41 Magnum 657 Classic Hunter that was made in 1991 that is an awesome range and hunting sidearm.....it has the standard sights as well, like yours.

I think that I may have a Lew Horton Classic Hunter Model 657 with a non fluted cylinder and with what I believe are Goncalo Alves grips and a ported barrel, but how can I verify?
