Several months ago a local man died in a 4 wheeler accident on his farm. Everyone knew that he bought guns but no one supected that he had over 800 guns stashed away along with ammo and accessories. So friends and family joined in to help clean them and get them in good working order for an auction. They hired an auction company and rented a large building, then people came from all around to try to buy one of these treasures.

I'm disabled so I couldn't go but a cousin who knows me well brought me these 3 revolvers. FYI, my cousin spent at least $40,000 on commemorative, engraved, special edition and antique guns.

Here are the 3 that he brought me or at least let me have. I would appreciate any help with the 2 S&Ws. The 586 has some type of lazer scroll work, was that a factory offering? The other S&W s SN is 523547. Any help and the sharing of your vast knowledge is appreciated. I wish you all a Happy Easter. May the Love and Pease of God be with you. Donnie

I've seen that 586 style before but need better pictures. My first guess is maybe Bill Elliot commemorative. Very desirable and every 586 I've ever shot is a joy. I like them better than a Python to shoot.

Looks like an outdoorsman and it looks original Very desirable too. Hope it's a .22 but 38 is good, too.

Can't tell much about SAA too dark but I hope it's a Colt. Your cousin took good care of you.

Middle gun looks like a M+P in 38 special, not an Outdoorsman. No rear sight.

S&W might have offered 586s with the laser work already done, but it was also something that a gun could be sent in for Smith to add to the gun. Cost wasn't much.Perhaps $85.

Bottom gun looks like a Ruger .22, not a Colt SAA.

I'll do my best to post better pictures.

I think the Colt 22 is called a Scout. (with adjustable sights it would be a New Frontier)

Ivan
I think your confusing guns from different decades. The Frontier Scout and Scout 62 were produced in the 50's and 60's and all had fixed sights.
In the 70's, Colt offered the Peacemaker .22 (fixed sights) and the New Frontier .22 (adjustable). These had steel frames and the early versions were case colored.

The OP's Colt looks like a Frontier Scout to me, which had an aluminum alloy frame. Colt later made a Scout 62. It was a bit heavier and had a zamac frame. Some of these were supplied with an auxiliary .22 MRF cylinder. Nice little guns, I've got its twin.

As mentioned, the 586 has laser engraving. Brochures were included with new guns that showed the different patterns available. You filled out the form, returned your gun with payment and S&W added the laser engraving. It wasn't very expensive and doesn't really increase the value.

What's the caliber marking on the old S&W? It is a K frame, odds are it's a .38 Special M&P revolver. The serial number should put it sometime in the late 1920's. The stocks may be earlier than the gun.
