M58, blued, 4inch Value?

Looked at a nice M58 yesterday. Gun is in very nice condition with a slight amount of bluing loss at the muzzle over all 98%. Magna stocks not numbered. Has correct box no paperwork. Not up on prices for these guns but I know they are popular. What should I be looking at for approx. value. Owner looking for $825.

In the condition you describe and with the original box, that doesn't seem too high. I'd offer $750 and see if he bites.

I think that's a great price and it will be gone if you hesitate. The grips alone are worth $200.

If the stocks are correct PC magnas (rounded bottom) and a mid to late seventies gun they might not have been numbered. I believe that is the time frame when numbering stopped.

Some of these revolvers have had the original (and rather valuable) PC stocks swapped out for the much more common, squared off N-frame stocks. That noticeably affects the value of the firearm.

If it has the correct stocks, that sounds like a good price.

I have a nickel one with serial # N272236 that shipped in 1979. Mine are not numbered , but I did not buy the gun new.

98% is really good.
When say "correct box" does that mean it is the original box this one came in or the box some other M58 came in? The latter wouldn't bother me too much but some people are really picky about that.

Do the stocks have diamonds around the screw?
Does the serial number start with an S or an N?

All M58s have 4" barrels, have pinned barrels and recessed cylinders (P&R). Most are blued so the much more rare nickeled ones bring a premium. Nevertheless, blue is nice, and 98% is extra nice. Diamond magnas are more desirable, as are those with the S prefix serial numbers, at least to most of us.

Personally, I would think any 98% M58 is worth the asking price. If the box is original to the gun, I would bet he could get $1,000 from some members here.

I had to pay over $750 in cash and trades for a reblued gun. It's not perfect but it's the only 58 I've ever seen. I'd just pay what the seller is asking and not risk missing out
