The thread on "Career Limiting Moves" got me thinking about this. I'm starting to believe that the ratio of idiots to rational people is increasing exponentially.

For example, a while back I pulled into a local fast food place. They want us to do everything with their drive-thru because of Covid. No problem. I have no issue with that.

Anyway, I pull up to the speaker and a young, female-sounding voice asks for my order. "I'd like a half dozen of your chicken nuggets."

Long pause. Then, "I'm sorry. They don't come in a half dozen. They only come in six, eight, and ten."

Pl-l-l-ease tell me she isn't serious!!

Then, this evening, I drove over to a friend's house. He and his wife are elderly...wife confined to a wheelchair. They have a 28-year old son living with them. I was looking at their yard....grass overgrown, weeds...a real mess. I took the son aside and said, "Uh, why don't you help the folks out and mow the lawn and do a little weeding."

He looked at me as though I was crazy and said, "You don't understand. I'm a place holder, not a worker."

What the heck is a place holder!!!!???

Anyway, sorry for ranting. I don't usually like to do that, but I'm starting to wonder about the rising generation.

Chip you should have said, "your going to be a butt holder in about 10 seconds after I put my boot in your behind of you don't get that grass mowed."

I bet there is not a judge or jury in Utah that would convict you of anything If you had to make good on the threat. Probably no Utah prosecutor would even press charges.

Unfortunately, we are surrounded with brain dead knuckle heads and it just can't be helped. They stand in line with their hands out, contributing little and expecting much.

Their looking for that "free government" money. I can tell you who's to blame but I don't want to get in trouble with the mods.

People can't count change or do basic math in their head - that's stupid.

As I live my life on a, mostly, cash basis, I'm constantly checking and re-checking the change I get back. There is no polite way of telling them they're wrong - I don't even try.

Given the dependence on smart phones, an increasingly cashless society, and our "education" system, I'm not surprised, but I'm amazed at what is going into the work force!

About 10 years ago, I had the same thing happen to me. My mom wanted chicken livers and when I ordered, I ask for 1/2 dozen livers. I was told they only sell 6, 9 or 12. I ask "You can't sell me 1/2 doz"? they said no. I then ask for 1 dozen livers. I was told, more sternly, NO, only 6, 9 or 12.

Also, if you purchase something for say $6.25, don't ever give them a $10 bill, a One and then 25 cents. They will give you the change for the $10 in the amount of $3.75 and your One and the 25 cents, saying you gave them too much money. When you try to explain you were trying to get back a $5 bill as change and not a bunch of ones. They just don't get it.

Several years ago I was shopping in a small grocery store in town. The store had an older cash register that did not count change and a much younger clerk that also could not count change. My bill came to $13.18. I handed her a $20.00 bill and the 18 cents. SHE TOOK OUT A CALCULATOR!!! I could not believe it.

Public schools. When I was a young copper, I dealt with people who were high school graduates that could not read, write or SIGN THEIR NAME TO A TICKET!!! After a few years, I became a Field Training Officer and was required to administer a spelling test to some rookies that could not write a ticket or simple offense report without making so many grammatical mistakes as render the report a complete joke. All products of our fine public school systems.
