bulk of Alliant Unique vs Alliant 20 28

Does anyone have any idea how much space each takes in a cartridge case? Is 20 28 as bulky as Unique?

It would appear to be finer, less bulky.

If you look at Alliant's Reloading Guide for shotguns, using a given bushing, more weight (in grains) are dispensed from it when using 20/28 than Unique.

Thanx, that is what I was afraid of. Less bulk more air space. I was hoping it was the other way around...........

As a note;
Alliant only list this powder with shotgun data.....................

I also tried the shotgun powder e3 in my 38 special for a few loads.
There is a reason that they don't list some powders for pistol loads.

The E3 loading data for 12 gauge doesn't seem to be that much different from the other faster shotgun powders. So what was the problem using it for .38 Special?

A coupla trusted members on other boards have reported that 20 28 gives results roughly equivalent to Unique in .44spl.............

I was getting large ES spreads......

none of my loads were any better in accuracy than my other powders...............

and I did not like the idea of "White Smoke" coming out of the end of the barrel............

but that's just my take.

Here's a burn rate chart that might help some. Generally speaking the faster the powder is the smaller the flake or ball size is. This is not always the case but most of the time.
