Seeing as we live in MI, looking to getaway some where warm and sunny late Jan early Feb.  But I'm having trouble even thinking about it with all the Covid bs going on.

Anyone have recommendations for a stress free getaway to FL?  No theme parks. Just want warm weather. Nice beach and ability to see some scenery and wildlife we don't have here in MI. Everglades?

I'm thinking I'd want the whole trip to refundable if anything goes down with Covid. Planning should be as stress free as possible too!

I live here in Fl and one of our favorite getaways is Marco Island . One road on and off . A lot of condos people rent out , but we stay at the JW Marriott . There's other places to stay also . The beach there is unbelievable . The everglades is just south of there . We've taken skidoo tours out of the hotel .

Last February, we rented an Air BNB house in Clewiston. I was situated on a working farm. It made a very good base of operations to do and see a lot of things. Get on the Net, and do lots of research. Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Seminole Museum is a must see .
Don’t forget your insect repellent!
Best,
Gary

No doubt about Sarasota. We’ve been vacationing in the Sarasota/Bradenton area since I was a kid, and my mother since she was a kid. My grandparents owned a trailer in a Bradenton senior complex for years, and my aunt owned a home on Siesta for several years after that. It’s still Old Florida, with just enough night life to keep the drinkers happy. We had to cancel our summer trip, and on a lark booked Christmas. Really looking forward to it . . .

Almost any where from Sarasota south to Naples.

Welcome!! ( Just know it's high season  )

Yep, JW is fine. I’ll be back.

We just got back from Miramar beach 3 days ago and had a wonderful time. It was northern Florida so a little cooler there but we still got out in the sun in our bathing suits and it was great and we didn't sweat. South Florida is a lot more crowded because it's warmer but I wanted to stay away from crowds since I took my daughters and we had a lot of fun and it wasn't crowded at all and the beaches were gorgeous. Every where we ate the food was excellent except for this one Irish pub place and our 2 bedroom condo was really nice with a great view of the beach and wasn't too expensive. I think the prices are much better in Northern Fl this time of year.

I've heard there is one difference between Yankees and Southerners. Yankees will pay money to see gators. The only gator I've seen was the one I was cooking. But I'm a Yankee.

Unfortunately travel seems to be the biggest spreader of Covid. Just look at the disaster Thanksgiving has caused. I suggest you stay home this year.

But if you must go, check into Florida's State Parks. Many of them have cabins that can be rented within walking distance of the beach. Check in, do your own cooking and enjoy the beach with minimal contact with other people.
I was planning such a trip for me and my wife some years ago, but sadly we never made it. :(

If you have to travel, and you want to go to Florida, I can recommend Englewood, on the Gulf Coast. I've visited friends there over the years, and it's just a beautiful community. There are condos you can rent that are right on the beach, and the sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico are just amazing. Plus, it's configured such that if you want to stay away from other people, you can do that without much trouble.

Good luck to you, but as Grayfox cautions, be careful...

I've lived in Florida for over 45 years and I'm going to let you in on the biggest secret as far as what you are looking for - the many freshwater springs just north of Orlando. Our favorites are Wekiva Springs State Park, Kelley Park County Park/Rock Springs Run in Apopka, and Blue Springs State Park in Orange City.

These springs are swimmable all year round with a constant water temperature of 72F. All of them offer swimming/tubing, canoeing/kayaking, and camping (both tent and RV) in some of the most beautiful natural lands you will find here. In the coldest parts of the year you could see hundred of manatees keeping warm.

Further north are Silver Springs, Silver Glen Springs, Ginnie Springs and a dozen others. Some are state/county parks and others are privately owned. All of them can be found online to make reservations if you stay there (many have cabins) and more than a few have hotels very close by.

I've always laughed at the folks who come down here, spend time at Disney, Universal and Sea World then spend a day at the beach and think they've seen Florida!

I stay in Pompano Beach from mid January to mid April. My Wife found a place to stay on Vacation Rental by Owner. They offer insurance that covers interruptions in the trip. We are close to the Ocean and the Intracoastal. There is Millions of nice places in Florida. We just picked spots that were in our budget and checked them out over the years. This Winter will be our eighth Winter in Florida. Last year we stayed an extra month because of the Virus and crummy weather at home.

....... right on the beach, and the sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico are just amazing......
