Catalog of Performance Center 945 Variants

Any ideas on production numbers of model170184?

I've had a 945-1 model#170184 for years now. Was EDC for about 7 years. Pcz prefix and seems to be one in front of the 2001 RSR ad. I've heard 300-350 were made, however RSR cannot verify that.

I wrote exactly this in post #14 above, I'll put it here also as it applies to this one.

I think we may be out in the weeds any time we have a PCZ-prefix Performance Center gun. Seems to me that if you are holding a PCZ in your hands or in your safe, you are holding a RARE pistol. It may not be much different than another similar PC pistol, but there is probably some small nuance that is different.

Makes this game even more fun. :D

Really, really nice work! I think I have one in my collection that isn’t accounted for in your list. A fairly rare bird, 4” dash-1 with PCZ serial prefix and straight line serrations front and rear. Also, I’ve added three more variants since that last picture, sixteen in all now.

I just saw a black, 4 inch 945 - part of a set of three 945s for sale on the big auction board - that has a bobtailed grip frame. Also wearing XS Big Dot sights.

Did the Performance Center make a bobtailed 945? IIRC bobtailed 45s is a fairly recent mod in the 1911 community. I though it postdated the 945 guns. If its a custom job, its a good one. Must have been expensive. Regards 18DAI

Thanks to the generosity of jughed440, I am now the proud owner of LEW0111 and couldn’t be more pleased. It is a fine piece of iron.

18, I seen that offering and questioned it myself.
I can't say i have ever seen one, my commander size doesn't have the bobtailed grip tho it got the gears moving.. a quick search revealed nothing so maybe a 1 off...

I wanted to join this thread and thank all those who have compiled such extensive data on the 945 and its variants. With that, this is an update on the two models I have. You'll see up near the start, CFR0330 (170152) which is my first 945 (those pics, much better than mine) from the auction website 11/2019).
The most recent (11/2020) was the RSA1839, 170173. I noticed both models (when apart/field stripped), the major components are numbered (coded). I hope you can see that in the pix for the 152 variant. Also, on one of the data tables, the 945-1 (170173) does not have the billboard (showing the number 945; just the PC label). Wonderful firearms.... (still learning more each day with all of the threads!)

Is it possible that your 170173 is actually a 170259? You wouldn't happen to have any mfg date information?

It is interesting that the round Performance Center emblem on your pistol is next to the model number, but the example we expect is a 170259 has the emblem on the serial number side.

The hex-head grip screws, if all four are original, point to both of these being earlier pistols rather than later ones. At least, that's what it seems to me.

Hi Skjos, yes, S&W sent me back a note for the serial number RSA1832 and said model 170173 mfg in 2000. Now attached is a pic of the fired case pack and you can see (hopefully) the date of 12/19/02.
