I read about people posting a video on you tube and it goes viral and they make a lot of money from all the viewing.

How exactly does that work?

Does the money come from sponsors putting ads on the video? Or just from being viewed?

Thanks.

My understanding is that each view is worth about ¾ of a cent. Some You Tube channels get demonetized, meaning they get nothing. Mostly gun channels.

I watch three Kansas Car Guys.
Hoovies Garage - Tyler Hoover from Wichita - has a number of Videos with several Hundred Thousand Views.
He has some over a Million views.
He's a Kansas Rich Boy who buys cheap Luxury Cars, Rolls, Bentleys, Lambos, Ferrari's, etc.
Had all kinds of problems!
Does he have the local Tow Co on speed dial?
Well yeah!
Then there's The Car Wizard. Works on Tyler's cars, except the BMW's.
The Wizard hates BMWs!
So the Witchita Car Ninja does those.
Now we go rural, to the Redneck, Country, crazy guy.
Weston Champlin. Rebuilds cats- trucks.
He's putting a Cummins in a Mustang?? I just don't get it!
Owns an Army Truck.
Says, let's go to town, pick up parts and get some fast food.
If we have time, we'll swing by Walmart and run over a Prius.

This isn't a YouTube story, but this thread reminds me of all the ways people are able to make money because of the internet.

I patronize a local family-owned Chinese carry-out...great food at reasonable prices. There's a young man who has worked there for more than twenty years, since he was in high school. He takes orders, makes deliveries, and works the counter. He isn't part of the family, and he most definitely isn't Chinese.

I've kind of wondered why a guy in his mid-30s is doing the same job he did in high school. I mentioned a couple of months ago that he's been there forever, and he laughed and told me that's because he's a part-owner! Turns out he designed a cell-phone app that sold very well...he made a lot of money from it, needed to invest it, and bought into the business.

Only in America...I love this country... :)

You can't watch You Tube videos? Or just can't comment?

I can't comment and my subscriptions seem to be largely dead.

When I refresh the home page, I get about four rows of content, then a spinning circle on the bottom.

When I click on notifications, it won't open them.

I saw a video from David "Missing 411" Paulides today in which he read an email from somebody who'd been banned for similar unspecified reasons. He noted that quite a few of his viewers had been banned recently. Commonality of "incorrect" opinions? Coincidence?

These social/media platforms run on a very Stalinist model. Like the NKVD, they leave you to GUESS what your "offense" was. Of course they don't beat you until you make the "right" confession... yet.

YouTube banned making money from shooter videos, so most went to Patreon for funding, or got sponsors who underwrite their expenses and even supply guns to showcase and ammo to shoot.

The hoops that they made C&Rsenal and TAOFLEDERMAUS go through were stupid and petty to the point of Maoism.

YouTube's been "age restricting" some of my videos. Apparently they don't think smoking a cigar on camera's not suitable for "younger audiences."

Hi Chooglin' with Snubby,

We wanted to let you know that our team has reviewed your content and we don't think it's in line with our Community Guidelines. As a result, we've age-restricted the following content:

Video: Smoking a Diesel Unholy Cocktail and Talking About Addictions

We haven't applied a strike to your channel, and your content is still live for some users on YouTube. Keep reading for more details on what this means and steps you can take if you'd like to appeal this decision.

What "age-restricted" means

We age-restrict content when we don't think it's suitable for younger audiences. This means it will not be visible to users who are logged out, are under 18 years of age, or have Restricted Mode enabled. It also won't be eligible for ads. Learn more about age restrictions.
