Would you find something like this useful for spare magazines? This one has 1911 mags, and is about 5" wide and 3 12" " tall. and about 3/4" thick It is flat on one side. It should fit nearly any pocket, except a watch pocket. The square corners are all it needs for a draw without pulling the whole thing out. Magazine fit is not tight.

I have a couple mag holders that are made for pocket carry.

They work well but between handgun and mag take up both main front pockets.

Easy to deploy with a little peactice and I usually drop my keys into the bigger cargo pocket.

That one may work in a cargo pocket. Not sure in a main front pocket because angle could prevent easy draw.

No way would I ever pocket carry 2 spare magazines. I rarely carry even 1.
If you think there is any probability of your getting in a gun fight and needing 18 or more rounds (and you are not military or law-enforcement) you need a serious lifestyle change.

What is the need for a mag carrier with that many extra .45 ACP rounds? Are you planning to use it just for CCW, or are you expecting to get into an extended gun battle? Here is my standard daytime/nighttime CCW kit: S&W M&P PC Shield Plus 9mm, Sticky pocket holster, spare mag in a pocket clip, and a Streamlight Pro Tac 2L. Plenty of room for them in front pockets or cargo pockets. God forbid that I'm ever in a really bad situation and need to use my pistol. But if it happens, my intent is to use my handgun like a fire extinguisher...to get me away and out of danger quickly. With my kit I have 26 rounds on board, and that should be much more than enough to give me time to escape the threat or to put it down. Remember the self defense gun fight "Rule of Threes"...3 yards, 3 shots, 3 seconds. Statistics from many years of research show that the average civilian fired just 2 shots in a self defense confrontation. Just my 2 cents. Be careful out there!

For me, it's not so much about needing X number of rounds. It is more likely to alleviate/solve a mag failure issue.

I see a use. I carry two 1911s (or more likely Commanders these days) and I carry two spares on the belt - when I travel to the big city (rare these days) I still two more mags in my right back pocket (the wallet is in the left).

They need to be in a pouch because loose they will slide around and end up were I can't get them out handily - what I do is cut the flap off a G.I. mag pouch - I would have to measure it but I think it runs about 4" or a little more in width.

Someone gave me a nice commercial pouch for the pocket that put the mags back to back - since this set of mags if for topping off and doesn't need to be fast I found that OK as well.

Sorry, I don't have pics of these

I do have a Bianchi pouch I keep in the car - it has a quick attachment for putting it on the belt - I rarely use it.

I think I have a better chance of hitting the Powerball than needing even one round in self-defense. I still carry two reloads. Just because that's how I was trained.

That can be pretty hard on your spine.

Statistics from many years of research show that the average civilian fired just 2 shots in a self defense confrontation.
What statistics? Who keeps stats on Citizen Gunfights?

I like it - short answer from Smoke - NO. Exactly. (y)

When I carry my EDC 9mm I might carry one spare magazine in a lower pocket of cargo pants. Generally, I don't carry a spare magazine.

Remember the self defense gun fight "Rule of Threes"...3 yards, 3 shots, 3 seconds.

There is that FACT, of course. But if I am going somewhere that seems to be a place for Tangos to strike then I will consider the second magazine. Think house of worship. ANY house of worship in 2025.

Actually, there have been quite a few individuals and organizations that do just that. Some are actually pretty credible,

I don't carry extra mags for my pocket carry Ruger LCP II or Sig P-365. I have some near
by if I'm driving my F-150. My plan is to withdrawal, not engage if possible. I will work
very hard to not be in a gunfight.

Remember hearing some guys saying it's the day shift I don't need a flashlight. My Surefire 6P came in handy on many occasions on the day shift, off duty a miniature LED flashlight is always in my pocket. If there is a downside to carrying a spare mag please explain.

Since it'sa FACT, perhaps you can cite a source?
But if I am going somewhere that seems to be a place for Tangos to strike
Tangos

I've referenced this post before multiple times but somewhere on this forum there is a post by Masaad Ayoob which he says paraphrased "If the cops carry two reloads, you should carry two reloads".
Two complete reloads was standard equipment for most police officers before any of us here were born. If I was asked in court why I carry spare ammunition, my answer would probably be the same as my answer for why I load with hollow point ammunition:

"Sir, if the police determined it was the best thing to use to protect people such as myself and my family, it seemed obvious that it was the best thing for ME to carry to protect myself and my family."

The first time I read it it made sense and 2 magazines take up about as much space as my phone.

Since we moved out here I'm going to say our odds of needing so much as one round on any human target have dropped to almost nil but if we happen to win the lottery, the nearest cops are the other end of that road

Try a belly holster,, most of them have dedicated spaces for mags.

I carry a P365X in a pocket holster. My P365X magazine has the MagGuts kit that increases capacity by 2 additional rounds, so I carry with 14+1 capacity. I think that is unbeatable firepower for a micro compact sized pistol that conceals completely in my right front pocket. As part of the decision to mimimize bulk by pocket carrying a micro-compact pistol, I take the calculated risk that 14+1 rounds of 9mm should be enough for the vast majority of self-defense scenarios that are ever likely to happen...and that I obviously hope never happen. So, I do not carry any spare magazines.

I carry a Seecamp EVERY day in my left pocket. Extra magazine in the right pocket, just in case. Been that way for about 30 years. Never needed either, but I know they are there if I do need them.
