A thought for the day.

Recently brought to my attention, but it took me a little time to fully appreciate this:

Half of the people we deal with are of below average intelligence.

I think your ratio may be a bit dated.

Average intelligence being where it is, it could be as low as single digit percentage falling into the below average category.

People aren't all that bad.

Which reminds me of a joke...

Three men die and are greeted by St Peter at the pearly gates.

St. Peter asks the first man; What's your IQ?
"110."
St. Peter asks; Did you get your bachelors degree?
"Yes I did."
St. Peter tells him he can enter through the pearly gates.

St. Peter asks the second man; What's your IQ?
"130."
St. Peter asks; Did you get your masters degree?
"Yes I did."
St. Peter tells him he too can enter through the pearly gates.

St. Peter asks the third man; What's your IQ?
"70."
St. Peter thinks for a minute and asks; Did you get your deer?
:)

... and I'm a deer hunter!. ;)

Lobo - While the statistics may bare out the 50% you posted - it sometimes seems more like 75%! All day long we talk to a multitude of people that couldn't think their way out of a paper bag! :( Until just a few years ago this didn't seem to be the case. Must be something they put in those small waxed paper milk containers.

Umm .... no.

Not to take a pithy quote too seriously, but the chance that you personally deal with a perfect statistically balanced sample of the population is zero.

So just pick the folks you interact with carefully, and you can really swing that ratio so life becomes more bearable :)

In my way of thinking, "intelligence" only refers to one's potential capability. I have worked with many borderline brilliant young people with stellar educational background, and yet they couldn't figure out simple tasks nor had any background in normal daily life's happenings.

Couple that with "I don't care" or "It's not my job" attitudes and those are the people we have to put up with.

Give me a person with a below average high school record, who successfully completed an AAS degree and can demonstrate a steady work record, and I'll take him over a high IQ MBa any day.

There sure are a lot of morons these days.

I've met many people with fancy degrees that were dumb as a box of rocks. I once dated a woman with 2 PHDs. Poor girl didn't have a bit of common sense. Educated doesn't necessarily mean smart.

AS: one letter short.
BS: we all know what that means.
MS: just more ****.
PHD: piled higher and deeper.

It is my opinion that there has been a relationship in the decrease in the % of "smart" people in the population and the increase in the use of bike helmets. Darwin's theory is in play.

There is a very large difference......

In having a lower IQ and being stupid. I have an above average IQ and have done a great many really stupid things.

They should have a companion rating to I.Q. called the S.Q. because there is also a broad bell shaped curve that defines stupidity, also.
