A thought about new gun buyers......

So going back to the Clinton ban is okay with you,Muss? If this happens, how long will it take the anti's to get emboldened to start banning all firearms.
I am not impressed with your position.
Butch

They're not going BACK to anything.

For them it's "Full speed ahead!"

Given the power, they will jump straight to bans and confiscation.

Their MINIMUM goal is to put every semi-automatic rifle on the NFA registry so that they can be easily confiscated in the future.

When somebody denies this, you know there's an agenda.

I never said I was okay with anything. I just provided my prediction. Your other comments are duly noted . . .

Your "prediction" has utterly no basis in fact, and contradicts the OFT STATED intentions of those with the potential power to make these things happen.

Again, what's YOUR mechanism for preventing them from being effectuated? Magic wands and fairy dust? Felix the Cat's bag of tricks? Clicking your heels together and repeating, "There's no place like home!"?

What was your purpose in denying things which literally MILLIONS of people have seen on video and in print? What were you attempting to achieve by that?

cmort, I made the statement they want to ban every type of firearm. I have been watching this battle for most of my 68 plus years.
Butch

I wasn't denying what you said, merely adding emphasis.

I've been seeing the same despicable attacks on individual liberty for 64 years.

If I said "making you mad," would you be mad? I don't deal in conspiracy theories . . .

It's not a "conspiracy" if you say what your plans are in front of TENS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.

The wouldbe perpetrators have STATED OPENLY what their plans are, some of them for DECADES... and they've done it ON VIDEO and IN PRINT.

Why do you keep denying that?

Is it all some monstrous practical joke, and they're actually planning to give every adult citizen an M240?

NOBODY believes what you're saying. I doubt even YOU do.

What's your agenda?

....The desire for a ban on "semi-automatic weapons" has been repeated ad nauseum for DECADES. There is EVERY likelihood that we could see one in the next six months....
Wanna go for $100 on that, straight up? If we see a ban on semi-automatic weapons by 1 July, I owe you $100. If there is no ban on semi-automatic weapons by 1 July, you owe me $100. Is it a bet? "EVERY likelihood" and all.

(Or, maybe you'd prefer to reconsider?;))

I don't see any point to it.

What do you see PREVENTING one?

The proponents see it as low hanging fruit that could be taken from their grasp in two years.

We were all new gun owners at one point in our lives, whether at age 6 or 26. We cannot afford any division in our ranks, because those who would seek to extinguish our 2nd Amendment rights will exploit any crack in our resolve.

My dad gave me my first real gun when I was 6 or 7. In my childhood he let me shoot his Colt .45 and Colt 22. He let me use guns out his collection for hunting and signed for my very first shotgun of my own when I was 14. He took me to many gun shows, including the Ohio Gun Collectors shows. How many of the "new gun owners" didn't have this kind of background, but finally came to realize that in fact, which has been expressed in the law for decades, the police have no obligation to protect individual citizens, just the public at large. You might say they have taken the first step in exercising support of 2nd Amendment rights, as now they a vested interest in those rights being protected. Would I have become a competitive shooter and active gun collector without the positive support and encouragement from my dad? Who knows?

One of Pop's favorite sayings, which I now find coming out of my mouth, is "If the older generation didn't pass along its knowledge to the younger generation, we'd still be living in caves." Years ago, I was friends in the Jaycees with one of the younger politicians in the county, who became president of the Board of County Commissioners. On the surface he would probably have been assumed to be against 2nd Amendment rights, but I got to know him and found that at least as to 2nd Amendment rights he took the classical position of it being an individual right. So one day I took him to my club to shoot on the bowling pin range. I took my .44 Special, which I figured with factory loads would have enough soup to take bowling pins off the table but not have a lot of recoil. HE HAD A BALL! He did get a hammer bite in the web of his thumb. He looked at that as a badge of honor, and he took one of the shot up pins home as a souvenir.

The upshot of this story is that to him, I was the "older generation", not by blood but by experience. I've lost track of him, but if I came across him again, would I spring for a box of shells to take him shooting at the range? In a heartbeat.

There will be attempts to create a Surveillance and Snitch society, use of Red Flag laws to circumvent due process, etc.
The traditional ways of being introduced to the shooting sports-parents, grandparents, family, Scouting, veterans groups, military service are disappearing, fatherlessness has become the norm, hence new approaches are needed.

I welcome the new gun owners and believe those looking down your nose at them are missing the point. How long have we been trying to get more people involved in the shooting sports and the NRA? Be glad they decided to buy a firearm for whatever reason, and give them a chance.
