Comparing a 12 cap to a 10 cap mag for a 422, all I see different is the length of the extension on the bottom of the follower. The markings on the body are the same. My followers are black plastic. So do people modify the mags by just adjusting the length of the follower, or is a brand new part necessary? I am not in a 10 round limit state or anything. I saw someone selling newly made followers that seemed expensive for what they are, to add the two extra rounds.

It's been hashed out a number of times. IIRC one person was actually successful(so they say) at cutting a 10 round follower down. Others have been successful swapping the followers, and there is someone that actually 3d prints 12 round followers. A couple of the auction sites have them.

I did not attempt to take my mags apart to compare the followers. You would have to want those extra two rounds pretty badly to pay 20$ each + s/h for someone's homemade followers. More than one model can use those mags so I would think they could make nice metal ones. I did not even realize that one of my spares is a 12 till yesterday.

With the modern magazines you are correct.

All that needs to be done is the black follower trimmed down to the height of the orange follower.

Back in the early 1990s, before the 12 round magazines were created, the slots on the sides of the 10 round magazine did not extend down far enough for a 12 round follower

So on older mags, you have the additional work of extended the slots.

These converted 12 round magazines are 100% reliable. I have been shooting them in my Model 41s since the 1990s

I agree!

The juice was just never worth the squeeze, to me, for 2 extra rounds.

Besides, I like loading a full box of .22 LR into 5, 10rnd magazines. 4-12 rnd mags means you still have 2 extra ctgs getting in the way till they get loaded, an annoyance at the range. I load my mags at home before the range trip and the 10rnd mags keep it simple. Have 14 for extended sessions, but, at 73, that would be beyond rare.
