Is a 642 too heavy?

I carry a 442 in my pocket at all times. Most often a second is in my waist. At this tim a 442 is in my pajama pocket.

I really like my 360pd. The blue carbon fiber grips are just a tad bit lighter than the stock rubber ones. On my scale it’s just a hair over 11 ounces empty.

Like those blue grips Surferdaddy. I went with the blue VZs on my 360.

I'm sorry, but the whole premise of this post is to ask the most responded to Twirker/Facebutt/etc. social media post. Honestly, this does not sound like ANY legitimate question for a current gun owner to ask. After all, all of these related questions have been answered multiple times(multiplied).

IMO ONLY, this appears rather staged in order to garner attention. Rather sorry I took the time to engage with the OP.

Well, maybe but back in the 90s when I first started carrying I went through a lot of searching and really fumbled around a bit until I found what worked for me. I have discovered that for me a few ounces makes a difference. Some may find that a p365 is a bit too heavy to carry and find that a p938 fits their needs fine. Only a few ounces difference but it matters in some situations to some people. For me a 642 is line carrying a very light single stack 9mm weight wise while the scandium j frames feel like I’m toting a 380. Only a few ounces, makes a difference to me but not a big one.

I never really cared for carbon fiber grips and always thought it was nothing but farkle. Now I really understand the function of those. Function is beauty.

I carry a 12 oz titanium cylindered 637-2 chambered in 9x19.
That little sucker kicks like a mule, but I love it anyway.

Only you can decide what's too heavy.

Like you I wore a duty belt and body armor for almost thirty years. Consequently, a pistol of any kind and a couple of spare magazines hardly seems like a burden. I typically carry a 5" 1911, on occasion a 4506 and for a few years I was dedicated to the Beretta 92, all considered "too large and heavy" for concealed carry. I don't give any of them a second thought.

Most have big opinions without the big experience to make them worthwhile.

To clarify: I'm not disparaging the carrying of small guns. Make your choice and train with it. However, absolute statements about purely subjective things shouldn't be taken seriously.

I agree with trooper. But I have noticed that as I grow older, and my belly bigger - the recoil of the light guns doesn't bother me - but the heavy ones making my pants fall off when I walk, that does.

I totally agree. Pick one and train with it.

Before and shortly after I retired, I would carry my 4" S&W Model 65-1 OWB under a Hawaiian shirt or sport coat on a daily basis, sometimes substituting my 2" S&W Model 12-2 Airweight (K-frame). Then, my back betrayed me, and I was back to pocket carrying my 642-2. I replaced the 642-2 with a Ruger EC9s and later added a S&W SD9. After some PT (therapy, not training) and some steroid/lidocaine shots in spine, I could go back to the 65-1, but the value has skyrocketed. I'm not emotionally invested in the EC6s or SD9, so if they end up in an evidence room I won't be upset. Would I carry one of the new S&W Model 19s or 66s? Sure, if someone gave them to me, but I'm not spending that kind of money and am content with my new Combat Tupperware. The 642-2 I gave to my tiny-handed granddaughter, a USMC corporal.

The Sig 365 is a bit smaller than the 642, weighs only a couple of oz more, offers 13 rounds vs 6 with less recoil, so many of us have found the 365 to be a great alternative.
Conversely, for a true pocket pistol an LCP is so easy to carry, the Gen 1 DAO safely so, and can reload with a 6 round spare mag much faster than I can reload 5 rounds in a J frame.
The older I get, the less metal I want to lug around.
